All those people born between 1981 and 1996 are considered millennials. Some call them the best generation ever for they have seen a lot and have developed a mindset that none of the other generations possess.

On the other hand, many of us believe that they are the worst of all generations because they lack a lot of qualities that are essential and make one a good human being.

So, here we are, bloggers Sumedha and Palak to argue whether millennials are the worst generation of all time or not. So, hear us out!

Millennials Aren’t The Worst Generation

“Although the millennial generation is regarded as the most stressed and anxious to date, they are also rupturing taboos around psychological health as never before.”

– SUMEDHA MUKHERJEE

They Accept Failures

Millennials have been exposed to the diverse inspiring stories of entrepreneurs like Steve Jobs and Elon Musk. This stretches their tenacity to work despite failures as compared to boomers who had to look for work that ensured economic stability.

Millennials can devote 110% to succeed, even if it means achieving a very unstable job that would not support them in a few years.

They Think Different

Racial, gender and other social variations are today’s norm in workplaces and universities. So Millennials do not just embrace diversity, they expect it. Many Millennials have grown up watching female leaders in power and have been the catalysts for the legalization of same-sex relationships. Social change is a big deal for millennials today, as they recognize its significance.

Mental Health Is A Priority

Although the millennial generation is regarded as the most stressed and anxious to date, they are also rupturing taboos around psychological health as never before.

Millennials openly talk about mental health issues on social media platforms and hence pave the way for avenues of expression by mentally affected people around the world.

Campaign For Change

The proliferation of social media platforms where people express their opinions freely is an advantage for millennials. They use these places to campaign against a government policy or social practice. Most of the time, their voices become strong enough to overcome the dilemma, as they can get support from people from the farthest corners of the world.

Experience Is Treasured

Most millennials prefer not to own a lot of property and stash valuable stuff, and instead value memorable experiences like travel. So they devote their resources to supporting the “sharing economy”. They are cutting down on things to throw away and pollute the environment.

Millennials Are The Worst Generation

“Instead of Going out and socializing, millennials prefer to be on the internet and scroll it even when nothing great comes out of it.”

Bad Parenting

Millennials are considered to be cranky, lazy, and undeserving most of the time. I think it is because of the parenting style. I say this because who hasn’t heard parents praise their neighbor’s kid more than their own?

The dialogue “Sharma Ji ka beta dekho kitna acha hai,” is disturbing. Listening to such dialogues day in and day out makes millennials feel undeserving and unworthy, and that’s why I feel they don’t end up taking new opportunities because deep down in their minds, they know that whatever they might do, Sharma Ji ka beta will get all the praises.

Excessive Dependency On The Internet

Millennials have seen the internet blooming in the 2000s and have used it unreasonably. Instead of going out and socializing, millennials prefer to be on the internet and scroll it even when nothing great comes out of it.

Social media applications like Facebook, Tumblr, and Orkut were also popular at that point in time and millennials made full use of them by being highly independent on the apps for anything and everything from personal to professional lives.

Less Patience Because Everything Has Become Instant

The instant-ness of everything has made millennials impatient and it is one of the worst characteristics anyone can have. As people kept on demanding, the manufacturers kept producing.

From instant food like 2-minute Maggi noodles to instant deliveries, everything kept making millennials impatient every single day. This impatience reflects in their day-to-day activities as they now look for instant profits and instant payoffs for the work they do. In case they don’t get instant success, they tend to call things off, which is the worst thing one can do.

Hence, I feel that it is right to call the millennials the worst generation ever, but I know my fellow blogger friend, Sumedha doesn’t agree with me on it. Let us know what you think in the comments.
