In early May the social media world was rocked to its core when news of Microsoft founder Bill Gates and Melinda Gate separating went public.
The couple that had been together for almost 27 years was seen as a solid couple that had seemed to weathered the time with each other.
This news gained a bit more traction since it comes soon after Amazon found Jeff Bezos and MacKenzie Scott revealed their divorce around two years ago.
However, it seems that one Indian industrialist took some very unusual and bizarre lessons from these separations and decided to post about it on his social media.
This, in turn, did not work out as well as he had hoped for him. The person in question was Harsh Goenka and he was quickly called out for his offensive words.
What Did Harsh Goenka Do?
On May 17th, 2021 Goenka the chairman of RPG Group in India decided to post this tweet.
The tweet reads as “Bill Gates divorced. Jeff Bezos divorced. Moral: Don’t earn so much money that the wife finds divorce alimony more appealing than the husband. Keep spending money on yourself.”

He obviously seems to be referring to how both these people are among the richest people on Earth and the wives could be getting pretty sizable alimonies in the divorce.
He was instantly called out on his words with many people slamming him for only further encouraging sexist and misogynistic stereotypes.
Twitter user @Subhash_atia9 replied to Goenka’s tweet saying “Both seem to be cheating on their spouses. The women stood them through thick and thin. It’s the billionaires in this case who have to learn life’s basic lessons.”
Another user @shanaz1369 replied, “Why do you always come up with such sub-standard jokes.. They are absolute crass n leave a bad impression on you and the brand you own”.
There were even some people who commented on how Goenka had seemingly just copy-pasted a WhatsApp forward, which just… makes it even more silly.
It seems that once Goenka saw how many people were pissed he decided to delete the tweet, however, it doesn’t mean the internet forgot.
Goenka’s words certainly shed light on how women are still looked at greedy people who are only after their husband’s money.
