Weddings in India are an extremely big deal. They’re not just the union of two people who are in love, but are the union of two families. They have been glorified and put up on a pedestal.

Right from the parents of the bride and groom to the neighbours of their relatives, everyone wants to be a part of weddings. They are often month long affairs with an array of ceremonies and functions that seem to be never ending.

Weddings are not just socially significant, but are also cultural reflections in a country like India. Weddings represent fun, frolic, colour, song and dance in all their glory. They are melting pots of culture and are essentially the essence of Indian culture.

Foreign tourists have a fascination with India. Perhaps the cultural richness, the vibrancy, the energy and the colour all draw them towards the country. This is directly related to the fact that these tourists, in a bid to immerse themselves in the culture and tradition of India are especially flocking to the country.

A certain startup, has made it possible for foreign tourists to buy tickets to weddings in India, in order to properly experience the cultural articulation of India.

The idea behind the startup

This certain startup, has come up with an exceptionally innovative idea of inviting foreign tourists to attend Indian weddings. The purpose of the startup is two fold.

Firstly, the startup believes that the best way to immerse oneself in the culture of India is through weddings. Since they give one a glimpse into all aspects of Indian tradition, from clothes, to food to music and also to the religious and familial set ups.

Secondly, it’s a way for the bride and groom to get their hands on a bit of extra cash for the wedding.

How does the startup work?

The startup has a website on which the wedding hosts and the wedding guests can register. They can explore and buy tickets for the weddings and ceremonies they wish to attend.

However, the hosts and the foreign guests interact with each other before the wedding with the help of the startup. The would-be attendees also have to pay a fee upfront, so as to confirm their visit.

The startup works in a way that allows guests to find wedding dates that fit into their travel schedules.

What makes it so unique?

The very idea of a concept like this is unique. It’s an interesting way for travellers to immerse themselves in the Indian culture and truly feel like they’re a part of it.

The essence of this is that, it not only acts as a package deal for an overall desi experience for travellers but is monetarily contributing to the wedding hosts.

“It was the coolest thing I did in India. The food, the people, the culture, you get everything”, says Christoph Flam from Austria.

“It’s a safe experience. You attend an event with hundreds of people, you are a distinguished guest there, people take care of you”, says Orsi Parkanyi, CEO of the startup.
