The Case

The cricketer and the 29-year-old victim met on the dating application, Tinder on 29th October and thus, decided to meet each other on 2nd November. They went for drinks and dinner, and then returned to the victim’s house.

There the victim accused Gunathilaka of sexually assaulting the victim four times. He is accused of having forced sex with the victim and choking her thrice. The woman stated that she didn’t give consent to have sex without a condom or to choke her during sexual intercourse.

Quoting the police documents, Australian media said, “The complainant tried to remove the accused’s hand by grabbing his wrist, but the accused squeezed tighter around her neck.”

The victim told her friends about the incident, had a counseling session, and saw her doctor before reporting the case to the police. She also underwent a sexual assault forensic examination at the hospital and she got her brain scanned to see if she has any injuries due to forceful choking.
