Embarrassing nicknames have been a big part of our childhood, from our parents giving us one like Sonu, Sweetu, Munna, Rolu, Babu, Chotu, Shona etc to our school friends giving us nicknames with which we are teased for the next 12 years, almost all of us have experienced this.
Rishi Kapoor too was reminiscing about this when he posted this tweet on his social media handle:

However, it seems that this nickname was not as much a favourite of his since he afterward posted this too:
Worked very hard to get Rishi Kapoor back as my name! Parents must never nick name a child. I never did.

Which, to a certain extent I understand, it is never really a good feeling to have random strangers call you by a nickname, but also seems like a redundant topic. The fact that he asked parents to never nick name their kids is not something he can really advocate since it’s quite a personal decision that most often comes out of love and affection.
And it is not like Rishi Kapoor is the only one with an embarrassing nickname, in fact, a lot of celebrities from both Bollywood and Hollywood have them with their own unique story.
Embarrassing Nicknames Of Celebrities
Almost all of the big celebrities around the world have their fair share of nicknames that can be embarrassing to them. Here we take a look at some:
#1. Karan Johar
It is quite known that Karan Johar one, of the biggest directors and producers of Bollywood is called ‘Pappy’ by his family and close friends.
#2. Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson
In a 2018 interview, Hollywood actor Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s mother revealed that they would call him ‘dewey’ that came from ‘dewdrops’ and it even got shortened to, “doo-doo” and “doo-dee”.
#3. Justin Timberlake
Justin Timberlake’s curly frosted tips during the late 90s when he was a member of the boy band NSYNC are till date memorable.
While many found it resembling a bowl of ramen or Maggi for us Indians, it also resulted in the forming of the nickname ‘Curly Spice’ and some fans even made him the sixth Spice Girl.
#4. Hrithik Roshan
Our very own Hrithik Roshan is also famous by his nickname ‘Duggu’ that is actually just an anagram of his father Rakesh Roshan’s nickname ‘Guddu’.
#5. Beyonce
One might be surprised to find Beyonce, the Queen Bey to have an embarrassing nickname, but apparently she does.
As per sources, she was called ‘Dumbo’ during her younger years because she had especially large ears, relating back to the fictional elephant character who is known for his abnormally large ears.
#6. Cristiano Ronaldo
One of the most celebrated football players, Cristiano Ronaldo was actually called ‘cry baby’ by his friends when he was little. This was because he would often start to cry when things did not go as per his way.
These are just some of the famous people who’ve had to deal with embarrassing nicknames from their family or friends, and there are many more.
In the Kapoor family itself, Rishi Kapoor’s other brothers Randhir and Rajiv Kapoor have such nicknames like ‘Daboo’ and ‘Chimpu’ respectively.
Even the daughters, Karishma and Kareena Kapoor are often referred to by their nicknames of ‘Lolo’ and ‘Bebo’ respectively.

Is The Cribbing Warranted?
One user actually pointed out how Rishi Kapoor’s Twitter handle actually had the very nickname that he was berating and asking parents to entirely stop using any on their kids.
Some others asked him when he was changing his handle name if ‘Chintu’ bothered him that much.
Also, apart from all that I don’t think Rishi Kapoor is in any position to ask parents to not nickname their kids as that is a very personal decision.
I will be the first to admit that they can be extremely embarrassing, especially when your parents call you by that name in front of friends or even worse co-workers, but they also have their own sentimental touch to them.
