We always hear of Indian actors and the mind-boggling fees they charge for each project, with some going into the hundreds of crores. However, Indian singers, specifically playback singers, are one area that has only recently begun to receive attention.
Not that they did not enjoy fame in the past, with names like Mohd. Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle, and R.D. Burman having truly etched out the history of Indian playback singing in the entertainment sector.
However, one cannot deny that while the acting sector has undergone some gradual regulation over the years (even if it is still not as systematically structured to prevent talent from being taken advantage of), this has not been the case for Indian artists.
Over the years, singers and musicians have spoken about how the industry is still not friendly towards them, especially with regard to payment for projects, royalties, copyrights, and other dues.
However, some have made a mark in the industry and now belong to the category of the highest-paid singers in the country.
