A Popular Korean Artist Plagiarises Pritam; King Of Plagiarism Himself

-

When it comes to plagiarism, Bollywood is no stranger to it and music composer Pritam would certainly come in the top spot of a serial plagiariser or inspiration taker, if you will.

But when Jennie, a Korean artist and member of the Blackpink group, released her teaser for her new song Like Jennie, dropping on March 7, it started a lot of conversation about how the teaser’s tune was extremely similar to that of Rani’s Theme from the movie Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.

K-Pop Artist Copying Bollywood?

The issue was quickly picked up, with several people commenting on how similar the beats and rhythm of the teaser were to the theme of Rani (Alia Bhatt) from the Bollywood movie.

One user wrote, “Crazy! Copying from a Dharma film says so much about KJo’s taste in music Wonder why someone would steal from a country that watches so many movies and every 6/7th human in the world is from there. Easiest to get caught.”

Another wrote, “Wtf why it’s sounding like “rani anthem” from the movie “rocky aur rani ki prem kahani”.”

A third wrote, “ran out of songs in western pop now she’s copying from bollywood.”

Fight Between Alia Bhatt Fans And Jennie Fans

However, this led to a lot of Jennie fans taking offence to this, eventually resulting in several racist and xenophobic comments being made against not just the actor but India too.

Some of these posts made fun of Alia, her looks, calling her a ‘nobody’ and posting pictures of her in an unflattering light or making insulting comparisons of her.

Of course, this had Alia fans coming to her defence, with one writing, “B***h do u even know who she is? Her movie RRR was nominated fr OSCAR and a song from same movie won GOLDEN GLOBE. She is global brand ambassador of Gucci. Now what has your girl achieved?? This Diva made her country proud in Metgala meanwhile ur girl got trolled.”

Another wrote, “Kid Alia has double the acting experience Jennie has in music, a hit one at that. That song is a Pritam (artist) song, Alia was the actress in the film. Rani was her character name. You are hating the wrong person here. Get a grip.”

Others also wrote comments like, “Why is Alia getting these remarks? She had nothing to do with producing or singing it. Are these nincompoops just attacking her for featuring in it?”

“Being a fan doesn’t mean you need to be disrespectful and racist. You can defend Jennie without being ignorant and racist. India has one of the biggest entertainment industries in the world, and Alia Bhatt is a huge star. Stay in your lane and keep the convo about music, not hate.”

It is not yet clear whether the tune was plagiarised or taken from somewhere else. There were also comments that Pritam himself could have picked it from some other place and that it wasn’t entirely original.
