The Indian Film industry is full of surprises. It is a space that is vibrant and varied and attracts people globally, from all walks of life. Many international stars like Akon, Barbara Mori, Giselle Monterio have fallen prey to the enigma that is Bollywood.
Recently, it has been brought to our notice that another international star has joined the bandwagon: The Men In Black star, Will Smith.
Smith has been seen interacting and chilling with many Bollywood celebrities and is presumed to be immersing himself in Indian culture and entertainment.
So what exactly is Will’s desi connection?
Smith’s Desi Escapades
Last weekend in Mumbai, Will was seen driving an auto rickshaw. He was touring the city and decided to try his hand at it.
Images of Will in the front seat of the auto, have already broken the internet and have left his international and Indian fans shook.
If this wasn’t enough to entice his indigenous fan following, he added fuel to the fire by posting a picture that left everyone stunned.
Smith Instagrammed a picture of him shaking a leg with SOTY 2 star, Tiger Shroff. According to Bollywood Life, Smith will feature in a cameo in this Karan Johar directorial venture.
Smith was earlier seen soaking up Bollywood’s party culture where he was photographed partying with Akshay Kumar after the release of ‘Rustom’. He befriended other stars like Sonakshi Sinha, Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan as well.
However, the news that has created a frenzy in the entertainment industry is that of Will Smith’s appearance on Karan Johar’s iconic show, Koffee With Karan.
The speculations around his arrival on the show began when Johar posted a photo of him with Smith and Ranveer Singh, captioned “Where there is a WILL, there is a way”, perhaps signalling that fans should be prepared for such a surprise.
Will’s Desi Connection
It’s a pleasure to see Smith becoming a part of Bollywood and the Indian entertainment industry in whatever capacity possible. However, what exactly is it that draws him to India? His arrival in the country time and again, has excited his fans here and abroad.
Perhaps it is the fact that he wants to widen his horizons by becoming a part of Indian cinema and culture or maybe it’s the fact that his Hollywood career isn’t at the peak that it used to be.
Smith is the face of some iconic movies like Men In Black, Hancock, and Pursuit of Happyness, all of which did well at the box office. He is also a recognised face with the younger generation and is flooding meme culture.
His proximity to actors like Akshay Kumar perhaps is another reason which propels him to come to India and immerse himself in it, time and again.
He recently said in an interview “The one thing I’d love to do, but I won’t be able to-it’s a tragedy- is I would love to go back to Akshay’s house for dinner”.
Well, whatever Will’s reasons are for coming back to us repeatedly, we will always welcome him with open arms. His fan base in India is quite substantial and is always looking forward to seeing him in as many Indian ventures as possible.
