Umaid Bhawan Palace is renowned not just as one of India’s largest private residences but worldwide as well. It has gained immense popularity over the last few years and remains one of the country’s most prestigious and luxurious destinations.

Situated in the Blue City of Jodhpur, this massive residency belongs to the royal Rathore family and has been occupied by them since the 20th century. It is also one of India’s youngest palaces and was the last palace to be built before independence, having been built in 1943.

The palace was built under the late Maharaja Umaid Singh when the country was going through a devastating famine. The purpose behind the royal residence was, in fact, to employ the farmers and not with the intention of constructing a luxurious abode.

The palace’s architecture, heritage, and history are the most fascinating and intriguing aspects of the place. Built during the colonial period, the architect, Sir Henry Vaughan Lanchester, incorporated elements of Western Art Deco into the building’s design and layout.

While the structure has stood tall and strong for several years, many new changes have taken place within the building. The royal family now only resides in one particular wing of the palace, and the rest of the residence is divided between an extravagant hotel and a stately museum.

Not to mention, it is also now a popular destination for lavish and magnificent weddings; this includes the wedding of Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Nick Jonas in 2018.

But that’s not all! Some other international celebrities who have visited the location include Madonna, Sting, Christian Bale, Brad Pitt, Mick Jagger and many more.

Here are some incredible pictures of Umaid Bhawan Palace’s surroundings and elegant interiors to immerse yourself in the glorious heritage and splendour of the palace:
