How A Woman Called ‘Madam N’ Made Indian Influencers Spy for Pakistan

-

The whole controversy with Indian influencer Jyoti Malhotra and her charges of doing espionage against the country has now reportedly led to the name of a travel agent coming up. This travel agent, who has been given the codename ‘Madam N’, is said to have been the mastermind behind setting up a sleeper cell network in the country and actually luring influencers and other citizens to share information about India.

What Did Madam N Do?

‘Madam N’ is said to be the codename of Pakistani businesswoman Noshaba Shehzad, who runs a travel agency in Lahore called ‘Jaiyana Travel and Tourism’. Reports claim that she was working with Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), the espionage agency of Pakistan, to lure Indian social media influencers over to the country and eventually turn them into spies. Her name came up after the arrest and interrogation of various social media influencers, such as Jyoti Malhotra, after they were accused of allegedly passing sensitive information to the ISI.

According to sources, the interrogation of these influencers revealed her name. She is alleged to be setting up a sleeper cell network of around 500 operatives all over India, who could easily blend in as regular people in the country. Sources claim that Shehzad, whose husband is a retired Pakistani civil service officer, would get instructions from ISI and the Pakistani Army on how to go about creating this network.

Reportedly, she got almost 3,000 Indian citizens and 1,500 non-resident Indians (NRIs) to travel to Pakistan in the last six months; however, it is not yet confirmed by official sources if this was only for the sleeper cell network. Luring Hindus and Sikhs over the border, she is said to have introduced those influencers to ISI and army officials.

Shehzad or Madam N is supposed to have sponsored Pakistani propaganda, according to sources, from money that she would earn from the expensive pilgrimage tours that were carried out for Sikh and Hindu Indian pilgrims. She was supposedly able to earn so much since her travel company was the only agency to organise these pilgrimages in partnership with the Evacuee Trust Property Board.

It is also said that this was supposedly due to her connections in the ISI and Pakistani Army, providing her access to large groups of pilgrims since they did not have any other option. It was on the recommendation and sponsorship of Madam N that the Pakistani High Commission was giving visitor visas to many Indian citizens, even though there is no process for them to obtain tourist visas, as per an NDTV report.

It has also been claimed that she had major connections with the First Secretary (visa) Suhail Qamar and Counsellor (trade) Umar Sheryar, and could get anyone a Pakistani visa with a single phone call.

Shehzad is also said to have been associated with visa officer Danish alias Ehsan-ur-Rehman, who has now been called an ISI operative and was expelled from the Pakistani embassy in Delhi and told to leave the country after Jyoti Malhotra’s controversy in May.
