Many of us may find the stories of rags to riches or poverty to prosperity ridiculous. However, there are certain people across the globe who rose from obscurity to fame, riches, and prominence in no time.

Work that is begun from scratch might sometimes grow into a large enterprise in the future. Just as the Bikanervala accomplished. Even though Bikanervala has become a household name for many of us, it was originally a tiny business in Bikaner.

How It All Began

Following the Partition of India in 1947, companies found themselves in a newly independent India, with a new set of regulations and standards to follow and new territory to explore. The Bikanervala sweets & snacks firm has a long history dating back to the pre-independence period.

Today, a brand known for its Indian sweets and snacks, Bikanervala, its humble origins can be traced back to 1905. The enterprise began in Bikaner’s Old Township of Kote Gate with Shri Lal Chand Agarwal as a tiny sweet store named Bikaner Namkeen Bhandar.

At first, the business sold several sweets and namkeen to suit Bikaneri tastes. The store flourished and found acceptance.

After prospering and making a reputation for itself in Bikaner’s old city region and surrounding areas, two brothers from the family set out in 1950 to write another chapter in Bikaner Namkeen Bhandar’s tale.

The two brothers opened a store in Delhi’s Chandini Chowk, selling sweets and namkeen. Using family traditions passed down from generation to generation, they created a gastronomic experience that the capital had never seen before.

The store, also known as Bikaner Namkeen Bhandar, quickly became popular among the locals for its juicy and delicious Moong Dal Halwa, Bikaneri Bhujia, and Kaju Katli, among other things. People in Delhi readily began to refer to the brothers and their shop as Bikanervala. That is how the name Bikanervala came to be.

The popularity of the shop escalated with time as a result of a name provided by the people. New shops and outlets were opened to meet the growing demand. During this time, Bikanervala evolved from a sweet shop to a business that also served fresh hot vegetarian meals.

Bikanervala Tasted Victory!

Learning the art of making sweets from his father, the current Managing Director of Bikanervala Foods Pvt. Ltd., Shyam Sundar Aggarwal realized that there was scope to explore more Indian products in the 1980s, when the western fast-food Pizza entered the Indian market, and Bikanervala opened several outlets in various parts of the country.

Bikanervala has achieved tremendous success in the sweets and restaurant industries. With the world becoming increasingly globalized and Indians residing far away from India, the family-run business has sought to deliver traditional Indian offers to Indians all over the world while also transforming the industry and themselves. This resulted in the establishment of the “Bikano” brand.

Bikanervala now has over 60 locations in India and has a presence in nations such as the United States, New Zealand, Singapore, Nepal, and the United Arab Emirates.

Who would have guessed that a small business in Bikaner would one day become famous all across the world! But nothing is impossible with hard work and commitment.
