2020 has been a very very strange year indeed. It seems like just yesterday we were celebrating the start of a new decade, and we are already in the eleventh month still dealing with a global pandemic.
As if the coronavirus pandemic was not enough, one after another strange things kept getting piled up on us throughout the year.
In the midst of this, of course, important things like elections, finding a vaccine to COVID-19, maintaining social distancing, lockdowns and learning this new way of living were at the top of the priority list.
However, amid all this, many other things also happened that trended on social media and were reported about, but somehow faded into the background no matter how bizarre or strange they were.
Here are some unfinished ‘plot lines’ in the extremely strange year that is 2020:
1. What Happened To The Murder Hornets?
In the early months of 2020, news came out of how murder hornets or Asian giant hornets were found in North America.
These Asian giant hornets are an invasive species said to be one of the largest hornet type in the world and predators to honeybees and other insects. Apparently, a small group of these hornets can easily finish off an entire honeybee hive in just a few hours.
Usually found in Asian countries like Japan, China, Vietnam, South Korea, Thailand and more, this was a rare instance of finding these hornets in the American lands.
As per the latest reports, a large nest of these murder hornets was recently removed by scientists in the Washington state of the U.S.
This nest had around 98 or so of these hornets, and supposedly there could be even more.
2. Wildfires Of The US Caused By Gender Reveal Parties
The massive wildfires in Southern California in the US were said to have been caused by a gender reveal party.
A firework mishap at the party, that is held to reveal the gender of a soon-to-be born child, was said to have caused the wildfires that ultimately burned down over 7,000 acres of land and forced people to flee their homes.
As per reports, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, or Cal Fire, said that a “smoke-generating pyrotechnic device, used during a gender reveal party” started the blaze.
3. Brexit
The United Kingdom (UK) officially left the European Union (EU) on 31st January 2020. A transition period for the withdrawal was marked that will be ending on 31st December 2020.
After this, the UK and EU will be once more assessing their relationship and what further steps need to be taken.

4. World War 3 Threats
In January 2020, World War 3 was the topic of discussion for many after the current US President, Donald Trump, approved a military airstrike on five facilities in Iraq and Syria.
This airstrike at the Baghdad International airport road ended up killing Qassem Soleimani, the Iranian Quds Force commander and Iraqi militia commander Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis.
This incited anger against the US troops from the Irani government with the Iran Foreign Minister going as far as to term it as “an act of war.”
This even ended up raising questions about a third World War given that many reports and experts believed that Iran would seek revenge for this.
5. Kim Jong-un’s Health And His Sister Rising To Power?
In April and May, there were rumours swirling around about North Korean leader, Kim Jong-un, after he did not appear in public for around 20 days.
There were reports about an “uncomfortable physical condition” that he was supposedly suffering from and even a “cardiovascular procedure”.
The rumours about his passing away were thwarted when eventually Kim Jong-un made an appearance in public on 1st May 2020. However, even then some people thought it to be a body double.
6. Pentagon Released UFO Pics But No One Paid Attention
In April, the US Department of Defense released 3 videos of “unexplained aerial phenomena” that had been recently declassified.
Pentagon, headquarters of the United States Department of Defense, said that this was done to “clear up any misconceptions by the public on whether or not the footage that has been circulating was real“.
Apparently, these videos had first been leaked in 2007 and 2017 and were taken as evidence of unidentified flying objects (UFOs) and the existence of aliens.
