On Monday, the Vatican camerlengo, Cardinal Kevin Farrell, announced that Pope Francis had passed away at the age of 88. As per the announcement, Farrell stated, “At 7:35 this morning, the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the home of the Father. His entire life was dedicated to the service of the Lord and of his Church.”
Pope Francis, who had been serving as the Head of the Catholic Church in Vatican City for almost 12 years, had been suffering from various health issues for some time. His respiratory problems had led to his being hospitalised, and this year, he suffered from a double bout of pneumonia.
Now, a conclave of 138 Cardinals will gather to elect the next chief of the Catholic Church. But who can take over the position as the next Pope?

Although these candidates are not in the running, there could be a day when an Indian becomes the Pope or the head of the Catholic Church in Vatican City. Cardinal Baselios Cleemis and Cardinal Monsignor Koovakad are among the names circulating as potential candidates for the position.
