SexED: Why India Doesn’t Have A Porn Industry And Why It Should

Porn: One of the most aesthetically pleasing forms of visual entertainment has found its way into our lives like no other medium.

We watch it, we like it and we jerk off to it to show our appreciation.

But never have I ever come across a person who has told me that he/she found any India-based pornographic movie as erotic or arousing as compared to any American brand of the same.

Indian porn has always been pretty flaccid (haha) when it comes to appealing to the mainstream and that’s exactly why we haven’t yet put out any credible porn brand, yet.

So, we’re gonna be anal-ysing the “WHY” of the situation and see what we cum up with (I could do this punnery, ALL DAY).

Let’s strip to the basics, ladies and gentlemen :

The first and foremost reason as to why porn is not produced in India is well, BECAUSE IT’S ILLEGAL.

Section 67 of the Information Technology Act 2000 straight up bans any porno material to be distributed in electronic form.

Yup. From a hopeful boner to a downright downer, I know.

But that’s exactly what pisses me off.

The govt. is well aware as to how 1 in every 5 people with a 3G connection has surfed a porn website on his/her cell phone, it has already tolerated a monolithic public backlash when they put a ban on porn sites (unity in diversity level was 9000, on that one incident) and even then, it’s still naive enough to not legalize an already brimming industry.

Now before we go into a culture vs porn debate, kindly hold your hormones and think about it.

What’s the worst that could actually happen if India were to have its very own porn industry?

Do we already not have a soft-core South Indian porn industry already?

So, why throw a fit about a macro scale commercialization of a PROFITABLE business?

The Effect Of Legalizing Pornography As A BUSINESS :

Not only this will help in eradicating taboos about  pornography as a whole but it will also create a much needed psychological drift from the naive-ness of the society to accept female pornstars as professional actors and NOT AS ESCORTS OR PROSTITUTES.

Sure, not a lot of parents would have a girl child in their arms hoping that she grows up to emulate Brandi Love or Julia Ann but hey, as long as it promotes female independence and keeps them well paid and on par in the economic strata with the male population so why the F not?

Take the American scenario, since we’re so good at aping the Western “culture”. Porn actresses (and ACTORS, TOO) are well paid and have a name for themselves, they have an award expo (The AVN Awards) dedicated to them and the industry is worth BILLIONS of dollars. Yup. You heard that right. Brands like Vivid and Brazzers have constantly racked up millions of hits on their respected websites with their Alexa rankings noticing a stunning growth in the past decade.

But all said and done, a proper framework on paper and in real life needs to be developed in a country like ours which is full of bigots and hypocrites who’ll jerk off porn but will get their panties in a bunch if women or men in their family wish to pursue it. It WILL BE A SLOW PROCESS.

And sure, it won’t be the  most “interactive” visual aid in sexual education BUT IT WILL CHANGE MINDSETS, facilitate economic growth on a small level, bridge the always-overlooked wage gap between the sexes and finally, it will facilitate acceptance of varied ideologies.

On a realistic note, it will virtually end the existence of the embarrassing MMS and so-called “reality porn” for which the perverts  of our country are so (in)famous.

The fact that we ourselves maintain a hypocritical stance will always hinder our intended motive to push the new generation forward. It may not be the one, absolute way to bring about gender equality or modernity in the blink of an eye but well, desperate times (shall) lead to desperate measures. A certain sect has already accepted Sunny Leone as a part of the Indian film industry so what’s wrong with other Indian porn actresses, just as normally?

Look at the commercial side of the business, its mass appeal, its potential to grow big (Did it again.) and for once, try not to bring the vehemently stupid “culture” debate into the scenario.

For you may just see the brighter side.
