Mumbai Police has always been very savvy with its method of spreading awareness. The Mumbai Police social media accounts have been remarkably active, especially during the COVID-19 lockdown period. Their witty and satirical social media accounts struck a chord with netizens while spreading awareness during the coronavirus pandemic.

Recently, the rising coronavirus cases in Mumbai prompted the Mumbai police to remind people to wear masks whenever they step out.

So, the Instagram handle of the Mumbai Police shared a still from the Harry Potter series to advise people to keep their masks on.

In the still, Neville Longbottom, from the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, is holding a Remembrall (a marble ball containing smoke, which turns red when its owner had forgotten something, also you should know this if you are not living under a rock!) sent to him by his granny.

The meme read, “The thing is, I can’t remember what I’ve forgotten.” And the Mumbai Police hilariously captioned it, “Your mask Neville, you have forgotten your mask.”

Netizens were extremely amused with the Mumbai Police’s ingenious attempt of sending awareness messages across to the Gen Z population.

In April, Mumbai became the first city in India to make masks compulsory when in public. According to reports, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation stated that the defaulters will be punishable under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Also, a fine of minimum Rs. 1,000 will be imposed.

Mumbai Police, in their earlier posts, have also used clips, GIFs and stills from many popular shows with a slight comical twist. From The Godfather, F.R.I.E.N.D.S, Brooklyn 99, The Batman to Bollywood movies like Andaz Apna Apna and Uri, memes are being used to spread awareness about following social distancing, always wearing masks when stepping out and sanitising.

Some more hilarious memes shared by the Mumbai Police –
