Meet Luca Leonte The Leading Expert In Business Transformation Through Agile Management Frameworks

Harvard Alumni and co-founder of Expert Agile Club are passionate about utilizing agile management practices to drive business transformation, implement organizational change, improve and optimize processes, increase corporate nimbleness, and develop transformational leadership initiatives.

How did you develop your passion for agile management initiatives?

For the past 15 years, I’ve led various transformational initiatives for my customers and I managed the successful delivery of business initiatives for multiple double-digit multi-million-dollar programs with resource pools of 100+ people in Europe and North America (USA). During this time, I was exposed to both the traditional ways of leading projects and the agile management framework and have observed significant benefits captured by my customers that embraced a more nimble approach versus the ones that preferred the waterfall management framework. I worked closely with  teams and organizations on the use of Agile/Scrum practices at Scale and advised Executives and CIO’s and CTO’s on the strategic importance of program management using Agile practices and was fortunate to see first hand the value generated by this organization mindset shift.

What are the benefits of an Agile Transformation program?

Agile Transformation programs provide companies with the ability to renew themselves, adapt, change quickly, and succeed in rapidly changing, ambiguous, turbulent environments. Furthermore, these programs also equip businesses with the ability to reconfigure strategy quickly, and structure, processes, people, and technology toward value-driven opportunities.

The benefits of agility can be observed in today’s fast-changing environment where nimble small-scale start-ups can compete with established companies that are better funded but lack the proper mindset and efficient processes to maximize the value of their assets.

What type of companies do you work with?

I work with companies of all sizes. I’ve helped both start-up companies as well as established institutions to drive the proper level of organizational  change that allows them to transform into fast-moving, adaptive organizations. The effects of my work enable businesses  to develop more capabilities, achieve a greater level of predictability while improving insight into what’s coming in the next period, reduce the overall cost of delivery, increase the frequency of application or product delivery while creating a higher engagement on both the technology teams and business teams creating a higher level of satisfaction for the results of their work.

What could a company expect from working with you?

I contribute to a business’s value creation and maximization through the successful and timely delivery of business objectives, or the implementation of platforms that transform, optimize, and support the scaling of business processes, which in turn convert into higher more reliable streams of revenue.

The change management initiatives that I lead, along with the setup of stable long-lasting frameworks based on agile practices, contribute to improved team productivity and morale, faster time to market, and better quality of services.

The long-lasting effects of my work are visible in key areas of a company where results such as the successful development, implementation, and release to production of high-quality software platforms can be observed even in the early stages of an agile transformation initiative. In the long-term, the benefits of corporate nimbleness are reflected in all business areas facilitating a company’s path to operating more cost-effectively and with a higher degree of clarity while enjoying a high degree of flexibility and adaptability to change both internally and externally in the business environment.

What was the motivation behind creating the Expert Agile Club?

We created the club out of a passion for giving back to the agile community and enabling widespread access to knowledge and thought leadership while curating and facilitating training, coaching, and career development opportunities for our members. The Expert Agile Club is a worldwide community of professionals that possess expertise and experience in the application and implementation of agile practices. Our goal is to create an environment in which agile experts can explore various career paths, grow, develop, and thrive in their knowledge and expertise. The club provides a framework for members to network, consult other experts, and develop their skills further.

Has COVID impacted the club’s activity in any way?

Well, just like everyone else, due to COVID we lost the opportunity of in-person events, at least for the short-term, but we gained a lot in terms of how many people we can have a positive impact on by shifting all our events to be 100% online. Through regular webinars, we are now able to maximize the value delivered to the agile community at large. Back in May, knowing that challenging times are coming for everyone as the economic effects of the pandemic will unfold we decided to open up all our events and webinars to both members and the public at large.  With an unprecedentedly large number of people losing their jobs or struggling to keep them, now it’s more important than ever, for people to have access to high-quality information sessions that can help them gain skills, knowledge, and insights and we’re committed to keeping these sessions free of charge for both members and the general public.

How does one join the club?

This year we made a major revision to our admission policy to promote inclusiveness and expanded it from an “invitation only” approach to allowing  existing members to refer people that would benefit from being a club member. We continue to extend invitations to a select group of professionals a few times per year but have also opened up the application to self-referrals. Basically, if you’re a professional that is passionate about agile you can go to our website and apply to become a member of the club. There is no cost associated with membership.

Any big plans for 2021?

Absolutely, major plans for 2021, one of the initiatives that I can share right now is a Change Leadership Coaching program that we’re launching early next year where I will personally work with a group of executives, program managers, scrum masters, and agile coaches over the course of 8 weeks and help them master the leadership skills needed to deliver successfully on every project or change initiative, regardless of size and circumstances, get the recognition they deserve, and command premium compensation for their work. These people will get access to a toolkit that will help them navigate business transformation initiatives with ease and help them develop the skills to join an elite group of change management professionals.
