I have never been a big fan of remixes, as according to me, they are just a fancy way to say that ‘we are out of ideas and therefore using what our predecessors created since they were obviously more creative than us’.

But as much as I dislike remixed songs, I still believe that a certain amount of work and effort goes into making it different from the original one.

I was epically proven wrong when I saw the recently released video of Ek Do Teen remix for the upcoming movie Baaghi 2 featuring Jaqueline Fernandez.

Let us take a look at some of the things that made me regret ever watching this 1 minute and 37-second song (if you can call it that):

1. Where’s The Remix?

To be honest, this song is not a remix, it is just a cover of the original song Ek Do Teen with just a different singer and maybe the tempo a bit fast.

Otherwise, there is absolutely nothing new to this song that would make you choose this over the original. And thus, it is extremely regretful that some of the big stars like Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor and all are applauding this ‘cover’ which shows absolutely no creativity be it in lyrics, beats, and even the outfit to a certain extent.

And what more, I have actually seen and heard covers of popular songs that can not only compete but beat the original song while this song does neither. A good remix off the top of my mind would perhaps be something like Saara Zamana that was used in the 2017 film Kaabil.

Now that would be a good way to remix a song with some new lyrics added in, sung by Payal Dev and some rap parts added by Raftaar. I wouldn’t necessarily call it a quality remix, but definitely much-much better than this song. Another would be Tamma Tamma Again that featured in Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya, now that is another version which did justice to the original song.

2. Jacqueline Looks So Malnourished

The first thing I was hit by when the song started was boobs. Jacqueline’s boobs were the first thing I saw in the song and then the camera panned wider and I saw her ribs poking out.

I am seriously concerned for her health and find it disturbing that not the director, not the choreographer, not anyone thought to point it out and correct either Jacqueline’s costume or change the choreography so at least it wouldn’t show so prominently.

The entire thing was a bit grotesque frankly, and the hypersexualisation of the song with it seeming more like a combination of Chikni Chameli and Fevicol Se songs was just utterly sad to see.

3. Progressive notions gone to dogs

The remix of any old song is always slightly nostalgic and usually, there is at least one little bit of the remixed version that appeals to us due to that very factor.

But sadly I am unable to find even a small portion of the song that appeals to me since it is the same freaking song. There is literally no difference in this new version, instead, the video of it has further ruined the peppy and fun vibe of the original song.

Instead of a dancer performing for an enthusiastic crowd and wearing outfits appropriate for a dancer, we have leering men who keep shaking their heads close to Jaqueline’s waist each time she shakes it, and two cloth pieces around the chest region covering the bare minimum.

Where the original portrayed Madhuri’s character as a performer and not simply as a sex object, this remix, on the other hand, seems to forget all about such progressive notions in favour of leering men who seem to be salivating over this half-dressed woman prancing around the set.

This is what Jacqueline is doing
And this is the reaction of the males around her, shaking their head like an animal

All in all, this was a sad degradation of an iconic song and makes me fear the state of our music industry and belays the fact that perhaps we actually do have absolutely no creativity in this sector at all.

The director of Tezaab N. Chandra has also raised serious objections against this song and even Madhuri Dixit is eerily silent over this entire matter.
