Internet has become the modern lifeline for most of us. From food delivery to ITR filing, every big and small thing is governed by the Internet.

Think what will happen if it shuts down. Probably, the world for many of us would turn upside down. It’s a nightmare… Isn’t it?

This nightmare is likely to become reality over the next 48 hours. Yes, you read it right; internet all over the globe would probably shut down for over 48 hours.

Let’s see what will make our nightmare come true.

For the Sake Of Updation and Maintenance

Russia Today has reported that global internet users might experience network connection failures as the domain name servers as well as the linked network infrastructure will be turned off for updation and maintenance.

Internet likely to shut down over 48 hours

The Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) will carry out maintenance work, over the next 48 hours, to change the cryptographic key that helps protect the internet’s address book or the Domain Name System (DNS).

This is a necessary step owing to increasing cases of cyber attacks and crimes.

Some internet users might be affected if their network operators or Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have not prepared for this change.

However, this impact can be avoided by enabling the appropriate system security extensions, as said in a statement by Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA).

Who All Will Face Difficulties

All those folks using outdated ISPs should gear up because this updation will mainly affect networks of those service providers.

An outdated ISP poses major threats to you and your computer system not only in terms of safety of your information on the computer but also in terms of cyber attacks that target you online.

This shut down would help your system get better and greater safety for you, thus ensuring the security of your information.

Consequences

Owing to the shut down happening due to obvious reasons explained above, most of the services available over the Internet will get affected.

This will have a two-fold effect- one over the users and second for the businesses online.

Companies like Amazon and Flipkart and various online blogs and magazines which completely depend on websites for their business will see a good share of setback, reason being the shut down.

The maintenance and updation comes at a cost which is to be born largely by service providers who work online.

Owing to regular maintenance and updation, people may experience slow internet

For the users, it must be noted that not only shopping and other activities would be affected, but the shutdown would also cast it’s shadow over payment gateways.

Searches over the internet would take more time and some websites may not even be accessible. The payments to be made would be affected due to the key domain servers undergoing maintenance.

All this is going to pose huge day-to-day problems over a period of 48 hours but it is indeed important to ensure safety and security of your future engagement over the net.
