Justice DY Chandrachud took oath as the 50th Chief Justice Of India, on Wednesday. He is known to deliver profound judgments with striking opinions, not worrying about any external agency. He succeeds Justice UU Lalit, who retired on November 8, from the service of the Supreme Court.
Justice Chandrachud has been part of benches delivering path-breaking judgments. His verdicts on the Ayodhya dispute, decriminalizing same-sex relationships, entry of women to Sabarimala, and privacy in Aadhar, have been landmarks in the history of the Indian judiciary.
The latest addition to his spectacular judgment is, expanding the scope of the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, to include unmarried women.
