Long-distance relationships can be difficult, with the quotient of physical intimacy between you and your partner being literally nonexistent.

However, a university in Jiangsu Province of East China has designed a new technology called the “Kissing Device” that allows one to experience the sensation of kissing his or her long-distance partner.

How Does The Device Work?

Students at a Chinese university named Changzhou Vocational Institute of Mechatronic Technology have invented a device that will help couples cope with the void of physical intimacy in their long-distance relationships. It is called the “Kissing Device.”

The device has silicone lips with actuators and pressure detectors, and this allows it to clone the warmth, movement, and pressure of someone’s lips, rendering it capable of making the impression of a real kiss. The mouth-shaped module in the gadget can be paired to one’s cell phone through a Bluetooth connection.

Users are required to install an app on their cell phones and then place the “Kissing Device” into the phone’s charging slot. This is how people can send kisses to their loved ones who live far away from them. They can also video call their partners while smooching to intensify the kissing sensation further.

Inspiration For The Device

A boy called Jiang Zhongli was struggling to put up with the absence of physical intimacy in his long-distance relationship with his girlfriend. He found it difficult to communicate with her through phone calls only. He desperately wanted to design something that would help him feel physically closer to the love of his life.

This is when Zhongli, with the help of a university in Changzhou, invented a device that will let users kiss their long-distance partners and called it the “Kissing Device.”

Jiang Zhongli told the press, “In my university, I was in a long-distance relationship with my girlfriend so we only contacted each other through the phone. That’s where the inspiration of this device originated.”

How Netizens Reacted

The invention of the “Kissing Device” has gained a lot of attention on social media. It created a buzz amongst Chinese netizens, and they expressed their deep curiosity regarding the gadget. While some people found it bizarre and disgusting, others think that it is a sweet gesture that can actually help long-distance couples to a certain extent.

Among the several netizens who found it funny, one of them commented, “The aliens can come get us at any moment I’m ready to leave this place it’s getting REALLY weird!”

People called it “creepy” and “vulgar,” while one of the users also wrote, “It convinced me again that having a long-distance relationship is a pretty bad idea.”
