One of the most buzzworthy topics these days is Kate Middleton, the Princess of Wales and her absolute absence from the public eye. The princess had gone for abdominal surgery on 16th January and while Kensington Palace did release a statement saying that she would not be performing her Royal duties till Easter 2024 (March 31) it has still got people buzzing like bees because of Middleton not being seen at all.

For a person of the Royal family, especially Kate who has been a constant fixture and almost stand-in for the Palace in the public eye since her wedding to Prince William, such a long absence with not a single photo or post about her is almost unheard of.

One could think that this is just a woman taking her time to recover from a medical issue and being given her privacy, but knowing how vulture-like the British paparazzi are, stopping at nothing and ignoring most ethical code of conduct to get their scoop, it almost seems surprising they would adhere to her wishes now.

All this has fueled several conspiracy theories surrounding what is going on with the Duchess as well as other things. Here are some of the conspiracy theories that are running rampant about where Kate Middleton is and the shenanigans of the Royal Palace.

Kate’s Lookalike

A few weeks ago, the Princess of Wales was said to have been spotted in a car with her mother, however, even then people were suspicious whether it really was her or a lookalike.

Even in the recent photos that came out, people like BBC sports reporter Sonja McLaughlan have brought up that the woman in them is not Kate and could perhaps be a lookalike.

In a tweet, she wrote “Disturbing that newspapers like The Times are reporting this as a fact. Headline ‘Kate seen in public for the first time when it’s clearly not her. As someone has said. Could be couple of lookalikes making mischief”, however, she had to delete it later because of backlash.

As per reports, a woman was photographed with Prince William in Windsor Farm Shop, which many reports claimed was Kate, however, several also believed it was not her at all.

Prince William’s Mistress?

A woman called Lady Rose Hanbury has been rumoured to be having an affair with Prince William, however, her lawyers have claimed that “the rumours are completely false“.

Lady Rose Hanbury has been under the lens for some time now, previously for her fashion sense but now for her rumoured affair with the Prince. Hanbury is said to be a close confidant of the princess and one of her best friends.

The Marchioness of Cholmondeley has been married to her husband, David Rocksavage the 7th Marquess of Cholmondeley since 2009 and has three children, twin boys, Alexander Cholmondeley, Earl of Rocksavage and Lord Oliver Cholmondeley, born October 2009, and a daughter, Lady Iris Marina Aline with him.

Theories have been swirling because of the considerable age gap Hanbury and Rocksavage have where the latter is a good 23 years older than his wife. The family living in the inherited family home, Houghton Hall (said to be very close to the Duke and Duchess’ residence) have their own set of theories revolving around them.

Some claim their wedding was just for convenience and for Rocksavage to get an heir, others include Rocksavage being somewhere on the queer spectrum due to his controversial friendship with François-Marie Banier, owning a house with him in France and spending a lot of time with him.

This also fuelled rumours of the Prince and Princess getting a divorce, reigniting the whole Diana-Camilla-Charles issue and claims that the couple is not on good terms.

The King Is Dead?

Among all the Kate Middleton drama, there were also reports alleging that King Charles III was no longer alive with supposedly fake documents.

Reportedly, several Russian media outlets, such as Sputnik and more, posted about how the 75-year-old monarch passed away on 18th March after complications from cancer surgery. These reports even had a fake proclamation attributed to Buckingham Palace, that stated about King Charles’ death.

The British Embassy in Ukraine soon clarified against the fake news and Buckingham Palace also in a statement to the Russian state-run TASS news agency said “We are happy to confirm that The King is continuing with official and private business.”

Contestant At King Of Masked Singer?

According to reports, a funnier conspiracy theory is that the Duchess has gone into the world of reality singing and become a contestant on the show “King of Masked Singer”.

People on X (formerly Twitter) claimed this made sense since the princess disappeared right around the shooting schedule of the show and used the costume to hide her identity.

Kate Middleton In A Coma

Spanish journalist, Concha Calleja, was reportedly the one who speculated that Kate’s condition was more serious than the public was being told about. Calleja in her TV show Fiesta claimed that as per insider info, Kate had been put in a medically-induced coma because of post-surgery complications.

According to the UK publication The Times she “spoken to an aide from the Royal Household in a completely off-the-record manner” and Kate’s life “was in great danger.”

She further added that “The doctors had to take drastic decisions at that moment because of the complications that arose,” and how “The decision was to put her in an induced coma. They had to intubate her.” Calleja also said, “There were serious complications that they didn’t expect because the operation went well, but the postoperative period didn’t go so well.”

The Palace in a statement to The Time said “It’s total nonsense. No attempt was made by that journalist to fact-check anything that she said with anyone in the household. It’s fundamentally, totally made-up, and I’ll use polite English here: it’s absolutely not the case” and also stated that the claims were “ludicrous and not fact-checked by Kensington Palace.”

The theories really started on March 11 when for Mother’s Day and probably to satisfy the growing buzz around Middleton’s absence, Kensington Palace released a photograph with the princess and her three children from the Prince and Princess’s joint social media account.

However, it actually fanned the flames of curiosity more because the image turned out to be altered with even media like The Associated Press putting out a public statement taking down the photo and discouraging its use further.

The princess also apologised later on X writing “Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing,” and that “I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day.”

The frenzy around Middleton and the lengths some people have gone to get the scoop, like attempting to access her medical records and whatnot, really does put a question mark on society.
