Online food delivery company, Swiggy has released its online trends reports. Biryani has topped the chart of the most-ordered dishes this year again for the seventh time in a row.

The seventh edition titled ‘How India SwiggyD 2022’ was released on Friday. The annual report includes data on Swiggy’s order analysis from January to November, across India.

Biryani- The 1st Choice

BIRYANI

Indians have stayed loyal to their love for biryani. Biryani has been topping the charts for the last 7 years. In 2022, Swiggy received 137 Biryani orders per minute, making it the top most-ordered dish this year. It was followed by Masala Dosa and Samosa.

The report has also revealed that Biryani has set a new record with 2.28 orders every second. This year has a higher average rate of biryani orders than last year’s average of 115 orders per minute.

Gulab Jamun- The Favourite Choice Of Dessert

Just like Biryani, Gulab Jamun also became the most-ordered favourite dessert of Indians. It was ordered 27 lakh times this year, leading it to the top.

Rasmalai and choco lava cake were the runner-ups in the dessert choice, where rasmalai was ordered 16 lakh times and the cake was ordered 10 lakh times. In ice cream, Alphonso Mango, Choco Chip, and Tender Coconut were the most ordered flavours.

Dining Out Is Back

As the pandemic has subsided. 10,000 new restaurants have joined Swiggy dine-out. The company has recorded 596 table bookings every hour on average. Customers spent 25% more while dining out as compared to last year. Delhi has topped the list for the fourth time in using the Swiggy Dine Out Programme.

According to India Today, the food delivery company said, “Swiggy Food marketplace served customers through the length and breadth of India. Customers placed their first orders in cities like Srinagar, Port Blair, Munnar, Aizawl, Jalna, Bhilwara, and more. For the first time, new cities experienced the joy of getting their groceries delivered to them in minutes on Swiggy Instamart.”

Indians have always been food lovers and are wholeheartedly accepting the technological boom in the food industry, as well. Food delivery apps have made eating much easier and more convenient.  Dine Out programs and the food delivery system might have made it easier to have various dishes at your service but it also competes with the idea of the experience of having food.

The dine-out programs might have an ounce of the experience that earlier, people had of going out and having food but the shift is major. The vibrance of street food and the community experience of having food is getting replaced by individualised food habits. The primary question arises- What is healthy between the two?
