Geneva Motor Show 2014: Top 5 Concept Cars

The recently held Geneva motor show has seen a lot of big, exciting, new launches. One thing that all visitors and the general public really look forward to are concept cars. This is because manufacturers showcase all new design elements, technology and features which we might see incorporated in our road cars sometime in the future. Here are a few of my favorite concepts from this year’s show!

Honda Civic Type R concept:

Honda have finally revealed the eagerly awaited Type R concept. With menacing looks, a huge aerodynamic spoiler, lowered suspension, flared wheel arches, and loads of other body modifications this car means serious business. It will be powered by a 2 liter turbocharged petrol engine producing around 300bhp. Honda engineers describe it as the most extreme Civic yet, and hell yeah they are absolutely true!

Jaguar XE Concept:

Jaguar finally made an important announcement which ended all the speculations and rumors. They have revealed the all new BMW 3-series rival christened the XE. Expected to go on sale in about a year the XE is based on Jaguar’s new aluminium monocoque platform . It will be powered by the all new Ingenium range of petrol engines. This car is something surely to look forward too, BMW and Mercedes Benz have a lot to worry about.

Maserati  Alfieri concept:

New GT car from Maserati really won the hearts of the audience at the show. This stunning concept is based on the Maserati GranTurismo MC Stradale and is powered by a Ferrari-sourced 4.7litre v8 engine producing 454 bhp which is mated to a 6-speed Automated manual transmission. The car will hit showrooms in around 2 years and will take on the likes of the Porsche 911 and Jaguar F-type.

Mazda Hazumi:

This striking new hatchback from Mazda, the Hazumi will compete against ford’s popular Fiesta hatchback. It is basically the next generation version of the Mazda 2. It will come with two engine options, the 1.5l petrol and an all-new 1.5l turbocharged diesel engine. It is based on the new Skyactive platform which comes with a twist beam rear axle in comparison to the regular multi-link setup.

Volvo Concept Estate:

Personally my favorite launch at the Geneva motor show was this, the Volvo concept estate. It’s basically a 3 door long wheelbase estate but the roof is quite low and the overall stance has been adjusted so well that it’s just a treat to look at. It also features Volvo’s all-new interior design scheme which we will see in their upcoming models such as the new XC90. It features a new tablet-sized touch screen monitor which controls a host of systems thus reducing the use of unnecessary buttons.
