Despite being considered romantic by many, I think SRK’s Raj from DDLJ had a creepy and clingy attitude when he wooed ladies. Sadly, Indian men have been trying to follow the character’s traits to woo their Simrans, making the sleazy approach a norm for the portrayal of their love.
Relevant even after 24 years
It’s amusing how even after 24 years of its release, Raj’s iconic “Palat… Palat…Palat” makes women blush, and how so many young souls try the Bollywood Badshah’s classic pose to charm their ladies.

Some Indian men still use, “Bade Bade shehro mein aisi choti choti bate hoti rehte hai”, in their everyday life to get away with things.
Even after 24 years, the Indian audience still considers Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge to be relevant enough to mimic Raj’s creepy and clingy personality, hoping to get a woman’s attention.
“Raj, naam to suna hi hoga”
In the first half of the movie, Simran’s luggage malfunctions in the train and her clothes fall all over the floor. After getting her things in order, she sits in one corner only to find a creepy stranger trying to befriend her. She picks up a book to show him that she is not interested, only to find him handing over her underwear, which she dropped.
Uncomfortable and cornered, Simran finds the creep, Raj leaning over her, trying to peak from behind the book. She asks him to leave her alone only to find him trying to rest his head on her lap to make eye contact and talk to her.
Later in the movie, he plays pranks on her, squirts water on her face, makes her miss her train, makes her think she slept with him when she was drunk and so on.
“Just Joking”
All this goes on in the first half, with the ‘just joking’ tag until they fall in love, experience a bit of Bollywood drama and have a happy ending. In real life, forget the happy ending, the first few seconds of their meet itself calls for a harassment suit.
Thankfully, while in ’95 being creepy was normalized as a ‘joke’, and “leave me alone”s were disregarded as a ‘yes’, Bollywood took 20 years until with Pink they realised-
“No means No!”
