Watch: 5 Famous Destinations That Are Fed-Up Of Tourists

Tourism is one of those sectors that largely contributes to the GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of most countries, such as the Small Island Developing Nations (SIDS).

We have always heard of countries attracting tourists, but now, things have changed. Overtoursim has become a challenge for many famous tourist destinations worldwide. The tourists who earlier were welcomed very happily by these places, have now turned into a headache.

‘Overtourism’ is a very new and surprising concept. In August 2023, locals of the beautiful Austrian lakeside village Hallsatt, staged a blockade of the main access tunnel, to protest overtourism. Their placards read, “Think of the children.” The village has approximately 800 people in population but gets around 10,000 tourists daily.
