Top 5 Indian Travel Destinations You Can Do On A College Budget

-

It’s that time of the year again when literally none of us want to write our exams. Everyone has made peace with the ultimate doom, and the sole focus (even if secretly) is on what happens after the exams. Of course, vacations! *insert an excited-faced emoji*

The next step after first wanting to go on a vacation and creating a WhatsApp group would be deciding on a place and going through gazillion holiday packages, looking to maximise the returns with a limited (shoestring, in most cases) budget – sorry for the jargon, been trying real hard to study econ and stats lately.

Well, we zeroed in on a few destinations with the help of some of the very many Thomas Cook holiday packages, have a look:

  1. Ladakh

India. Ladakh. The road NH 1D from Srinagar - Sonamarg - Zoji La - Drass - Kargil - Khaltse - Lamayuru - Nimmu till Leh

We run out of words when asked to describe the beauty of Ladakh. Literally meaning “the land of high passes”, this cold desert is nothing like anything else in this country. It’s calm, clean, and vibrant in its own unique way. Oh and did we mention, perfect for the summer?

Cost: INR 8000 per adult (without flight)

  1. Chail, Himachal Pradesh

I believe Himachal Pradesh has been on top of the list (and maybe among the first to be checked off it) ever since the concept of holidays came into existence. And in a very justified way. I have personally been to three different places in HP, but I wouldn’t mind a trip to Chail this summer.

Cost: INR 6000 per adult

  1. Jim Corbett National Park, Uttarakhand

If you are a lover of nature and are tired of the typical commercial holidays, the Jim Corbett National Park is where you must head to. Enjoy the nature walk and open jeep safari, bonfire with light music too, if you choose to go there during winter. Who knows when you might spot a Royal Bengal tiger?

Cost: INR 6000 per adult

  1. Shilon Bagh/Potter’s Hill, Himachal Pradesh

potter's hill

Meet the lesser-known, but more scenic, quieter, closer-to-nature cousins of Shimla. Situated close to Shimla, it’s high time ShilonBagh and Camp Potter’s Hill replace McLeodganj as the destination every single DU student has to visit.

Cost: INR 7000 per person

  1. Jhaltola, Uttarakhand

Far from the madding crowd and almost completely unheard of, Jhaltola is at the top of my own bucket list. As the official website of The Misty Mountains Retreat describes the place, it’s as much for the youth-enthused souls and adrenalin junkies as for the lazy vacationers, indulgent travellers and silent observers.

Cost: INR 8000 per adult (all inclusive)

And if you are one of those who have travelled to death across the length and breadth of India, and have been saving some Euros and Dollars over time, maybe it’s time to look abroad.

With euro & dollar rates dipping the previous month, it wouldn’t even cost a bomb to check out some international destinations.

Don’t forget to confirm the Euro to INR rate or the current Dollar rate before leaving though! *wink*
