Top 5 Candidates We Want To See As The President Of India

-

With the latest announcement of Meira Kumar by Congress as their Presidential candidate and not long ago BJP announcing their choice who was Ram Nath Kovind, it seems that President of India battle is going to be an interesting one to see.

Meira Kumar who is not just a Dalit woman, but also one of the first woman Speaker at the Lok Sabha, was elected without any opposition in the position.

Ram Nath Kovind has already amassed a good chunk of media attention to himself, and both the candidates are bound to go head to head.

But these nominations actually prompted us at ED to take a look at some other candidates that we would love to see compete for the highest office in the country, the President of India:

1. Shashi Tharoor:

Shashi Tharoor is perhaps one of the most popular politicians in India, and someone who can actually give a burn unlike anything to his competitors.

But Tharoor, who is currently serving in the Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala’s Lok Sabha as a Member of the Parliament is no doubt someone best suited to represent the country.

His oratory skills are known across the world, and his accomplishments are nothing short of impressive.

2. E. Sreedharan:

presidential candidates

E Sreedharan or Elattuvalapil Sreedharan is best known as the ‘Metro Man’ for completely changing the way we use public transport with his contribution to the Konkan Railway and of course the Delhi Metro.

A retired Indian Engineering Service officer and Indian civil engineer, Sreedharan served as the MD or managing director for the Delhi Metro from 1995 to 2012.

He has also been awarded the Padma Shri in 2001 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2008 by the Indian govt.

Considering his efforts in expanding Nothern Railways and bringing the DMRC in the top 10 metro networks and even more so the fact that at the age of 80 he is still working like a machine, surely makes him a candidate we would want to see rise up as a candidate to the Presidency.

3. Fali Sam Nariman:

presidential candidates

Fali Sam Nariman has been a senior advocate to the Supreme Court of India since 1971 and from 1991 has occupied the position of President of the Bar Association of India.

His grasp and excellence over international arbitration is worldwide known and Nariman as a presidential candidate would be excellent with his vast knowledge of legal system and all the ins and outs of it.

4. Tessy Thomas:

presidential candidates

Although we had a female President in Pratibha Patil, however, Tessy Thomas who is also recognized as the ‘Missile Woman of India’, would be a much more memorable candidate for Presidency election.

Thomas is an Indian scientists and was the Project Director for the Agni-IV missile in the Defence Research and Development Organisation of India.

She is one the first woman in India to lead a missile project and has been an inspiration for women in science for long.

One could say that she might be the next female APJ Abdul Kalam, but I believe she would bring something different to the table for sure.

5. Raghuram Rajan:

presidential candidates

Raghuram Rajan had been in the news not long ago when he stepped down as the 23rd Governor of RBI which he served as from September 2013 to 2016.

Rajan had always shown an affinity to going by his own way even if that meant opposing the current, ruling govt.

Many speculate that it was BJP only that forced Rajan to resign from RBI, but that has not yet been confirmed.

However, a Presidential candidate that goes by his own principles and doesn’t give up in front of power would definitely be good for the country.
