My happiness knew no bounds when the Supreme Court of India decriminalised Section 377 in a landmark judgment in 2018.

This verdict came as a relief to many others who can now look for love without the scare of being put behind bars. And that is where dating apps can be a great help in finding new people.

While there’s no shortage of such apps that cater to just about every audience and interest, few have been created keeping the LGBT community in mind.

Dating apps, in general, cast a wide net and help find exactly the kind of people you want to be with. If you hate leaving your place and are bored with Tinder, you’re not alone.

Here are some of the best dating apps compiled especially for the LGBT community. Some are paid versions but none too ridiculous.

Planet Romeo

Planet Romeo aka Romeo was launched in 2012 as a dating platform for the entire LGBT community. Back then, it was a boon for homosexual existence.

Some might even call it the deeper end of the online dating pool. But I suggest you all try for yourselves. Romeo allows you to access people at a fair distance with no prior subscription to premium versions.

It even takes into account the genuineness of the profile based upon the number of people who personally know the user. Well, guess who’s switching profiles from Tinder.

SCRUFF

It is a dating app allowing users to browse gay or bisexual men from the nearby locality or even miles away.

This app, in particular, is filled with interesting features. The Scruff Venture allows you to match with a global gay companion.

In case you are planning a trip, let guys in your destination city know about your whereabouts by publishing the travel agenda on your profile.

You can even become part of communities you identify with or learn about interesting local events. It even includes HIV-positive men to make it more user-friendly.

Scruff not only allows you to date like-minded people but also helps you connect to find some amazing friends.

OkCupid

It’s one of the sites that makes online dating feel cool and works well with both homosexual men and women.

If you’ve ever tried online dating elsewhere, you might’ve noticed the plethora of irritating and uninteresting questions begging people to lie. Imagine a dating app whose matching strategies are based on non-traditional questions.

It shows an effort to push for lasting connections and allows you to login by Facebook itself.

The site offers 12 gender identities and 20 sexual orientations to make people describe themselves better. Basically, it’s more precise than the gender options given in our national survey assessment form.

Grindr

It is a widely recommended dating app for gay and bisexual men. The app works on a GPS-based mechanism that allows you to meet men as near as a few feet away.

I’m sure that’s icing on the cake for all the sloth bears out there. But in case you’re looking for a long-term relationship, Grindr might not be the solution to your desire due to its infamous tag of ‘come here for casual fun’.

The more you swipe, the smarter it gets. Happy dating!
