This Is What The Rs 370 Biryani Joke Guy’s Employer Did After His Comment Went Viral

-

The Rs 370 biryani joke is the most talked-about topic right now. Frankly, it is wrong to even call it a joke; instead, it is more of a mirror into the mindset of the particular group of men who feel comfortable in society, among crowds, and people of all ages and groups who believe that what they are about to say is normal, relatable, and even funny.

The genuinely unfortunate thing is that the crass statements made by a man at a recent comedy show are not even anything unique or absolutely unheard of.

We’ve heard of the locker room talks, things that boys/men say that are just to be accepted as nothing serious, of course, no issue to be raised, because obviously, the ‘boys will be boys’ mentality is going very strong even now. But these types of stories that men tell are everywhere, in group chats, at dhabas, in hostel corridors, and at office lunches, and nobody pushed back hard enough to suggest it was a problem.

That is where the comfort comes from. Which is exactly what allowed that man to share a story from his dating life, in full explicit detail. Loudly. Into a microphone. On video.

The reaction from the comedian and the hundreds of people in the audience, who were laughing uproariously at his words, further validated for him that whatever he was saying was funny and not problematic at all. In one video, a woman’s consent was given a rate card of Rs. 370. That is what spending on a woman, at a date, is what allows a man to feel they have the full right to get their ‘paisa vasool’ from her.

But for once, the internet did not let it die down. And the resulting backlash seems to have had consequences for both the comedian and the person who told the story.

What Is The Rs. 370 Biryani Controversy?

Pranit More is a Pune-born stand-up comedian and radio jockey with a following of 10 million on Instagram, and he also appeared on Bigg Boss 19.

During one of his shows, while doing crowdwork, a style of performance in which the comedian riffs off real-time interactions with audience members rather than performing a scripted set, he landed upon a man now known as Himanshu Jangra.

Jangra, a 22-year-old web developer from Gurugram, Haryana, decided to share a story about a date he had gone on, in which he and the woman had eaten chicken biryani from a local market. The bill, he said, came to approximately Rs 360 to 370. After dinner, the woman asked to be dropped off at home.

It was here that Jangra’s anecdote took a turn that would make him nationally famous in the worst possible way.

As per the many clips that went viral, Jangra told the comedian: “Maine kaha 370 rupay lage hain, main wasool toh karunga (I said, I’ve spent Rs 370, I have to get my money’s worth.)”

To this, Pranit laughed and said, “Peak Gurgaon content.”

Although the original video has been taken down, this one manages to get most of the story.

In another shocking remark, Jangra said, “To maine socha ki room pe le jau par thoda awkward lagega ki pehlee din hi maang ri (So I thought about taking her to my room, but it would feel a bit awkward since she might think I’m asking for it on the very first day).”

Apparently, More even gave him some kind of cash prize, supposedly for his very ‘funny joke’.

The backlash over these comments, the comedian’s and the crowd’s reactions were swift and full of horrified anger. Content creator Uorfi Javed shared the clip on her Instagram Stories and wrote, “Disgusting. Disgusting”.

The clip itself had written the caption, “Ek baar aur phir mardjaat apni okaat dikhte hue… and everyone is laughing gaware sare chiii (Once again, mankind has shown its true colors and everyone is laughing, all idiots.)”

Another Instagram user wrote, “This is not peak Gurgaon content, this is peak rapist content.”

User @allthingzabsurd on X/Twitter wrote, “Parents, please teach your daughters to never accept even a Rs 10 treat from a man. You never know which one will decide that a cheap meal gives him the right to cross physical boundaries and ignore a clear NO just to recover his costs (sic).”

“This kind of comedy is the absolute worst form of entertainment. Packaging predatory entitlement as crowd work and laughing at sexual harassment is sickening. A meal is not a contract. A treat is not consent. Stop normalising this. A Rs 370 biryani is not a lease agreement for a woman’s body (sic).”

Social media is full of people on practically every single social media platform, calling out the remarks that are not simply sexist, misogynistic, or insensitive; they are downright horrifying, considering that several times in his story, the audience member talked about how the girl didn’t really seem all that enthusiastic.

There have been endless videos of people adding their commentary to these clips, and the kind of mentality they show that Indian men seem to have. Of how normalised the lack of consent still is in this country, to the point where the live audience had no issues laughing at his statements instead of giving crickets.

What Did The Employer Do?

The company, Starvik Design, in an Instagram Reel, also announced that they had fired this particular employee. In their caption, they wrote, “We have fired Himanshu. Mistakes have consequences. But we also hope they become opportunities for reflection, learning, and positive change. After carefully reviewing the situation, we have taken a decision and wanted to address it openly. This is our response.”

Starvik Design founder Vivek Vishwakarma, in the video posted on June 8, 2026, talked about how they received hundreds of messages. about their employee.

He said that he has seen the clips going viral and added, “Let me be very clear, the statements shown in those clips are offensive. They are not something I agree with. They are not something our company stands for, and they certainly should not be influencing young minds.”

He explained that they had an internal review of the matter, speaking with other employees, especially Jangra’s female colleagues; however, they found that officially, they had no complaints against him.

Vishwakarma did add that although colleagues described him as “professional, respectful, hardworking, and well-behaved at work”, however, “What happened outside the workplace has now affected the workplace, and I have a responsibility towards the company, our team, our clients, and the environment we create here. That is why we have decided to part ways with Himanshu.”
