There Is More To Sex Education in Schools Than ‘Penis’ And ‘Vagina’!

“Sex “as a term in India has been overused practically given the rise of our population, but theoretically we have not yet crossed the pedestal of comprehensive sex education in India.

Thanks to the current government’s Saathiya Initiative  which is giving a thought to our hormonal feelings and has moved into the direction of educating whooping number of adolescents in India, for whom pornography has been the sole credible sexpert.

As an adolescent of India, I do feel that India will see massive changes if comprehensive sex education will get its way here. Well those changes might be these.

1) End to our Ordeal: – Cribbing over sex columns, internet articles, and blush talks in peer group will come to an end, once adolescents who are still in schools would get pangs of sex education not in a clinical knowledge dose but rather in a more easy tone, digestible and understandable.

2) Change of Connotations:- Discussions and Discourses in India around sex generally ends to danger, violence and disease, it has been from very long time deviated to its original root “as a pleasure”

3) Development of safe space: – When adolescents would be exposed to such gem of knowledge at their tender age, it gives a hope to the society for the development of personal and social spaces where such conversations could be exchanged without any social stigma.

4) End to Vicious Circle: Wouldn’t it be nice when comprehensive sex education would put an end to the shameful practice of Teenage marriage and pregnancy? The data of UN’s 2013 report said, “Nearly 70,000 girls in developing countries die annually due to complications in pregnancy and child birth. India needs it immediately since it tops this list.

5) No to Stereotyping: – ‘A boy should not cry as it sabotages his masculinity’, ‘A girl should not behave like a boy as she loses interest to reproduce in future’, these are the comments that we hear almost everyday around us.
Get this straight, STOP moral policing.
Sex education and its fostering would definitely wield positive results in the outlook of society.

 6) Promotion of Equal Sex Rights: – Unfortunately, we still have people in this country, or rather this planet, who do not understand female sexuality. A very recent example is the CBFC banning the movie ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’ because they found it very “lady oriented”. What hogwash!!! Get your head out of the mud you ignorant ostrich!
WOMEN MASTURBATE! There! I said it…

7) No more moral policing: – Moral policing is an imperative of our Indian culture since it is believed to enshrine our family values. We should not hold each others’ hands as it dilutes our ideal characteristic. Well imagine a society where adolescents are fully aware about this crap and instead of blindly adhering to it, they are raising their voice against it. It would be a paradigm shift to the entire approach.

8) Homophobic: a thing of Past:- Well guess what the Saathiya’s initiative if in future would be coupled with comprehensive sex education it can open doors to the exit of Article 377.

9) Social Development: – Society in terms of its knowledge and intellect would get a great push, when its young chunk of population would get sensitive to gender issues and will ratify their knowledge in developing their nation equally at their part. End to discrimination now.

10) Women Empowerment:- The concept of sex education would bring a great deal of relief to women in India since they have been subjected to objectification since ages. She has been announced as a factory of producing child. She has been loathed for whatever body shape she chooses to have. Disgustingly, she is often looked at as a piece of meat.

Ughhh….

Nevertheless, we do expect some gender sensitisation to usher in through CSE.

These are just the initial benefits, if this idea would have its way it can develop a society in India where gender issues would become a talk of past, not because of its insensitivity but because of its adaptability to empower women in fullest of its strength.
