Why Are We Only Seeing The 2 Flaws & Not The 8 Social Messages In Badrinath Ki Dulhania?

-

So the much awaited Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan movie Badrinath Ki Dulhania has finally released and while the producers and actors left no stone unturned in its publicity, the reviews have sadly been extremely negative.

And while I wouldn’t say that it was an epic film worthy of an Oscar or something but the overall bad reviews have left me quite shocked, to be honest.

Curious, I went to see the movie, maybe I am a masochist and wanted to see exactly how bad it could, however, I have to say that it wasn’t half as bad as I had imagined it to be.

Not only the movie was adequately entertaining, but it left a sense of happiness and optimism in me. According to me, the film talked about equality in an extremely easy manner.

Instead of making everything big and grandiose, and forcing the social message onto the audience, the movie instead mocked the society’s various social evils, while keeping the movie light-hearted and entertaining.

I am now confused as to why are people choosing to fixate on the 2 flaws of the movie and ignoring the 8 positives and strengths. Have we become so negative?

Okay wait, before you all jump at me screaming about how regressive the movie is, I acknowledge the flaws in the movie whole heartedly, mainly:

1. The fact that it made stalking look cool and something that will get you the girl. Agreed, not cool and definitely not something that needs promoting. But even in that, Alia’s character confronted her stalker and let him know of the consequences of his actions.

2. And second would be that It made the sexual assault on a man look funny and unimportant. Again, sexual assault no matter what gender it happens to is a wrong and inhumane act and should be dealt with sympathy and giving the victim a safe place.

But what about the rest? These posters might shed a very different light on what all Badrinath Ki Dulhaniya is about:
