Apple Unveils iOS 9.1- Here Is Why You Should Update

Merely weeks after unveiling iOS 9, on October 21, Wednesday, Apple rolled out its first substantial update to it, iOS 9.1. The update comes with a handful of enhancements and bug fixes seeding to the users, anxiously anticipating this update since the beta version has been out.

So, here is why you should quickly grab this latest iUpdate.

The iOS 9.1 update can be majorly categorized into: Features and Fixes

  1. Intelligent Sensing In Live Photos: This feature will be most appreciated by iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus users as it relies on the 3D Touch technology exclusive to these models. With the iOS 9.1, the iPhone can detect that it is being lowered or raised, thereby avoid recording unwanted movements, providing accurate and glitch-free capturing.

  1. 150 New Emojis: One of the most exciting features of the new update is the slew of food-laden emojis that comes with iOS9.1. 150 new emoticons with full support for Unicode 7.0 and 8.0 emoticons, including  the taco, burrito, cheese wedge, middle finger, unicorn head, and many more has delighted the iAudience. Now you can tell your friends when you’re hogging or partying and even show a middle finger to the android users. You probably don’t want more reasons?

  1. Always-on Siri: Another notable addition is the Always-on Siri feature that will keep the virtual assistant always at your disposal simply by saying “Hey, Siri.” This feature is similar to the activation of Google’s own voice assistant with the greeting “Okay, Google”.

4. Siri Gets Smarter: With iOS 9.1 Siri will be able to learn your voice, so it will know when you-and not someone else–is using the “Hey, Siri” feature.

5. Disable Contact Photos: The update also allows a new option to disable photos for your contacts.

6. Apple News App: For the users of UK and Australia, iOS 9.1 brings the Apple news app which collates stories from around the web based on your interests. This curated news feature can soon be expected in India.

7. Compatibility: The update also brings compatibility updates for the upcoming fourth-gen Apple TV hardware and the new iPad Pro. It also adds support for Apple Pencil.

Apple has tweaked its previous ‘buggy’ iOs 9 and several anomalies have been resolved.

1. Improved stability including CarPlay, Music, Photos, Safari, and Search.

2. Improved performance while in Multitasking UI.

3. Fixes an issue that could cause Calendar to become unresponsive in Month view.

4. Fixes an issue that prevented Game Center from launching for some users.

5. Resolves an issue that zoomed the content of some apps.

6. Resolves an issue that could cause an incorrect unread mail count for POP mail accounts.

7. Fixes an issue that caused some messages to not appear in Mail search results.

8. Resolves an issue that left a gray bar in the body of an Audio Message.

9. Fixes an issue that caused activation errors on some carriers.

10. Fixes an issue that prevented some apps from updating from the App Store.

11. iOS 9.1 also includes updates to the Live Wallpapers.

How can I get iOS 9.1?

So, if you haven’t already updated your iPhone you can do it as follows:

Back up your device if you haven’t, head into Settings > General > Software Update and the update should pop up. Click Install and the download will begin.

It is important to note that if you’re not currently running 9.0.2, you’ll need to update to this before 9.1 will show up.
