The FIFA International break just before the final stretch of the regular season had some really interesting events and we’re here to to review the top 5 for you!

1. Lionel Messi banned for 4 games due to his on-pitch behavior :

The most controversial news which came out of this international break was the 4-match ban on Lionel Messi, when he playing in the World Cup Qualifier match between Argentina and Chile.

It was reported that Messi had hurled abuses at the linesman which resulted in this action by FIFA, thereby restricting Messi to miss 3 World Cup qualifying matches and 1 friendly match.

The decision has been labeled harsh but this isn’t the 1st time that Messi has come under shade for his behavior on the pitch. Although the whole controversy is dodgy in it own right, with certain reports floating online that the linesman didn’t mention any abuses in his post-match report but only time will tell if the ban is reduced or not.

The ban on Messi worsened Argentina’s chances for qualifying for the World Cup as they lost 2-0 to Bolivia and that’ll be analysed IN THIS ARTICLE in the 4th point.

2. Ronaldo flying high for Portugal :

On one side, Messi got handed a 4-match ban and on the other side, Cristiano Ronaldo had a gala time in his two games for Portugal during the international break.

The Portuguese superstar was at his best as he scored 2 brilliant goals (one a venomous left-footed half volley from 20 yards and one a sensational free kick from 30 yards on the left wing) against Hungary to stay in contention for World Cup qualification in 2nd place in his group.

Next up, Ronaldo and Portuguese national team were greeted with a heroes’ welcome in Portugal as Ronaldo played in his hometown of Funchal (in Madeira) against Sweden in a friendly game and again scored a lovely goal to top off his heroic display against the home fans.

3. Netherlands in danger and MAY MISS OUT ON WORLD CUP QUALIFICATION :

One of the most revered footballing nations in the world and a dominant force of free-flowing attacking football, La Orange are having a torrid World Cup Qualification campaign and this International Break was no different for them.

Their World Cup bid looks in dire jeopardy as they incurred another loss, this time to Bulgaria (YES. BULGARIA.). Dutch football definitely needs help and they need it NOW.

Netherlands are right now 4th in the table with 5 matches to play and are 6 points behind group leaders France.

4. Seamus Coleman And His Horrific Injury :

It was a horror tackle on Seamus Coleman as he was representing his country Ireland during the international break in the match vs Wales, where welsh player Neil Taylor made a bad tackle on Coleman’s leg which practically snapped into half with a shattering fracture to the shin.

FIFA may be imposing a hefty fine on Wales for this incident as it gave Coleman a season ending injury

5. Argentina are shattered without Messi and Neymar is leading Brazil to glory :

Argentina continue their steady decline whenever Lionel Messi isn’t on the pitch as they incurred another humiliating loss to Bolivia, who made easy work of the top-ranked football team in the world by dismantling them with a score line of 2 – 0.

Meanwhile, Neymar continues to shine for Brasil in his role as the captain as Brasil becomes the 1st team to qualify for the FIFA World Cup 2018.

That’s all from our side, folks!

Stay tuned for more footballing news and action!
