There are certain places that might not be the best in several areas, but just the fact that it’s associated with a certain period of one’s life holds significance.

The news of The All American Diner in the India Habitat Centre (IHC), Delhi finally shutting down has pushed a lot of 90s and millennial Delhiites back into memory land.

Once a hub for many people wanting that ‘American’ eating experience, the coronavirus pandemic had it closing its doors to customers along with several other restaurants.

But while many eateries are slowly opening up, The All American Diner won’t be the same as before, due to several reasons.

The All American Diner No More?

The fast-food place located in Lodhi Road’s IHC, had been serving customers for almost two decades now. It was a big part of IHC in general too, with people coming to visit the place usually making a stop at the All American Diner if only just to admire the decor and area.

It was pretty iconic from inside too, having a rustic 1950s American diner style and dishes like pancakes, burgers, milkshakes, burgers, waffles, hot dogs and more being served there.

However, with the expiration of IHC’s contract with Old World Hospitality, which used to manage The All American Diner, along with the food court Eatopia and Delhi ‘O’ Delhi and Oriental Octopus (both are members only places) the change was expected.

The restaurant has now been renamed Habitat Hub and will be directly managed by the IHC. As per reports, this seems to be the only change to the place, with the menu, decor and staff all remaining the same as before.

A statement from the Old World Hospitality has commented on this change saying, “While we created several restaurant brands at IHC, The All American Diner truly occupies a special place for all of Delhi and also in our hearts. We carry wonderfully warm memories of our tenure at IHC. A whole generation of kids grew up on the Diner and what is unique is that its clientele straddles every generation. A chef from a Diner in California was brought in and the bestselling menu has lasted two decades – with minor tweaks. This was the first American Diner to open in India over two decades ago. We have been inundated with offers from restaurateurs wishing to convert their restaurants into The All American Diner both in Delhi and Gurgaon and are evaluating options. As soon as we get the right location, we shall reopen our doors.”
