Breakfast Babble is ED’s own little space on the interwebs where we gather to discuss ideas and get pumped up (or not) for the day. We judge things too. Sometimes. Always. Whatever, call it catharsis and join in people.

Today, GenZ is crazy about Bollywood celebrities. Who is Ananya Pandey dating, why did Ira Khan’s husband wear shorts to his own wedding, why did Priyanka Chopra not attend her sister Parineeti’s wedding, why does Malaika Arora walk the way she walks and the list is never-ending.

People want to know everything about the actors and the paparazzi are catering to these needs, living by the motto, ‘Lights, Camera, Invasion’. A peak behind the curtains shows the price of fame in Bollywood, Invasion.

We too draw a line between our personal and professional lives, and of course, we don’t want any intrusions in our privacy. The same goes for the actors as well. Judging them based on the decisions they make for themselves, and getting influenced by them isn’t the right way to go by.

It is high time we stop idolising Bollywood celebrities. Actor Irrfan Khan once said actors are not heroes, ‘Real heroes work selflessly just to change people’s lives’. Very often, people feel that the on-screen creatures are marvellous and they (the audience) are substandard.

Loving the work, the character and the actor in that character is all good, but getting influenced by their personal choices to such an extent that you start feeling inferior, isn’t.

Celebrities do have an amazing effect on fans, which often turns out to be negative rather than positive. In 2016, a Snapdeal employee, Dipti Sarna, was kidnapped by a stalker who said that he was inspired by Shahrukh Khan’s 1993 movie “Darr”. In that drama, the lead, Sharukh, was obsessed with Juhi Chawla’s character to the extent of kidnapping and killing.

Thus, when the young generation watches Bollywood drama and the GenZ follows these personas crazily, it becomes extremely important that they are able to segregate the wrong and right. Just because you really like a celebrity, does not mean you will have to do everything that individual does. They too are humans, and humans make mistakes. Just like you and I.
