Nadaaniyan, the big Bollywood debut of Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh’s son Ibrahim Ali Khan with Khushi Kapoor as the other lead. Directed by Shauna Gautam in her debut feature, it’s, of course, produced under Karan Johar’s banner.
The film follows a pretty standard plot of Pia Jaisingh, a rich South Delhi girl, and Arjun Mehta a middle class boy who comes from Noida (whom no one is allowed to forget and that the character is proud to be from there) and how they fall in love when Pia gets Arjun to be her boyfriend-for-hire for reasons.
The film has been getting trolled and mocked since its release on Netflix for its cinematography, direction, and acting, especially by the two leads. From comments that the movie looks like a Colgate commercial to the strange dubbing for Ibrahim and the lack of talent that the audience feels from both of them.
Several Gen Z netizens have also mocked the film’s attempt to appeal to the younger demographic but fails spectacularly to be relatable.
Some have defended it, saying it could have been a silly but entertaining movie like Student of the Year, the Golmaal series, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, and more, but the film doesn’t manage to be at that level. However, in the midst of all this, Ibrahim Ali Khan reshared a story about the many 10/10 ratings that the movie had received on IMDb.
Ibrahim Ali Khan Reshared Story
Ibrahim reshared a story by a fan account, @ibrahimsishq, on Monday on his official Instagram page.
The fan account in their story had posted a screenshot of the IMDb ratings that the movie had received and captioned it “almost 75% gave it 10 stars on IMDB”.
Although the movie’s overall rating was only 4.5/10, the screenshot also showed a 10/10 rating from over 5,000 users.
It was also noticed that the screenshot had cropped out all the ratings that were below 6/10.
The screenshot did end up raising a lot of questions with user StormRepulsive6283 on Reddit commenting, “If 75% gave it 10, how is the rating 4.5?” while user Unlucky_Diamond_5298 shared, “How did 4.5 become a high rating on that app?”

10/10 Rating On IMDb?
The IMDb, or Internet Movie Database page of Nadaaniyan currently shows an overall rating of 4.8 out of 10. But when you look at the User Ratings, it shows that 77.9% or 8.7k users have given it a 10/10 rating.
It gets even more interesting when you filter ratings by country as it shows that the majority of the 10/10 ratings have come from India. Around 86% or 8.5k of these 10 star ratings have come from India.
In all fairness, there are users from other countries that have given it a 10/10 rating, however, they’re quite small in number.
How Is The IMDb Rating Calculated?
Now it is important to note that first these are just ‘User Ratings’ and not ‘User Reviews’. IMDb’s ‘User Ratings’ are just a numerical rating from 1 to 10 that can be given by anyone by simply making an account at the online database platform.
These ratings also differ from the overall IMDb rating, which is calculated in a more complicated and weighted manner.
The ‘User Ratings’ one sees includes the ‘unweighted’ and ‘weighted’ mean, with the former referring to a simple average of all the user ratings for a movie or TV show without making any adjustments or weightings.
The Unweighted Mean is calculated by adding all the individual ratings that the project has received and then dividing them by the total number of ratings. It is a very straightforward average, with every rating being counted.
However, that doesn’t necessarily affect the main IMDb’s “Weighted Average” which is calculated using not just the individual rating but also takes into account other factors voter distribution, unusual voting activity, credibility of voters, and the number of votes to make sure that a more accurate, reliable opinion is reflected.
Votes from users who rate consistently or have been on IMDb for a long time might have more weight than others during the calculation of the weighted average rating of a movie or TV show. IMDb’s mechanisms also adjust “Outlier” votes, that is either very high or very low ratings, along with adjusting a large influx of ratings in a short period from affecting the consensus.
So, while the User Ratings reflect the raw data averages, the final rating is not affected by their impact or weight.
Social media users have also raised the possibility that this might be bot activity or a paid promotion.
In a Reddit thread on r/BollyBlindsNGossip titled: “Ibrahim Ali Khan posts about Nadaaniyan’s high IMDB ratings”, user itsdan4u1 wrote, “I think IMDb is using a correcting algorithm here to weed out the fake ratings. Since it is easy to find out through the voting pattern. If that’s the case, then it’s a nice, well deserving slap on this stupid practice/ content. The boy doesn’t even know he is showing the proof of fake ratings. Literally nothing they do is smart smh.”
User NotDelusional01 also commented, “Hmm, but the imdb rating is showing as 4.5/10. Why would anyone share such a low rating unless I am missing something. Also its bots that are giving 10/10 rating.”
