The recent suicide of a pan masala baron’s daughter-in-law has gained widespread attention and brought into focus the private struggles of life inside a wealthy household.
The case has since spurred conflicting claims: while her natal family alleges harassment and abuse, the in-laws and the family’s lawyer strongly reject those claims.
With the investigation of her death underway, reports have come forward about a diary found by the police and what it reveals.
Found unresponsive at her Vasant Vihar residence in southwest Delhi, investigators recovered a diary in her bedroom and a note referencing deep distress and “relationship issues.”
What Did The Diary Reveal?
Deepti Chaurasia, 38, was the daughter-in-law of Kamal Kishore, the pan masala baron and owner of the Kamla Pasand Pan Masala brand.
On Tuesday, November 25, 2205, the woman was found by her husband, Harpeet, also known as Arpit Chaurasia, hanging inside a room at their house in Vasant Vihar. The police, calling it a suicide so far, were informed about it when the husband made a PCR call upon discovering the body.
According to reports, the husband had been at the gym when his mother informed him that Deepti was not responding to calls.
A police officer said, “The husband got home, went to the second floor and entered the bedroom, where he found his wife hanging from the [ceiling] fan. They lived together in the house.”
She was then taken to the Safdarjung Hospital, where medical officials declared her dead on arrival.
An investigation is currently ongoing into her death, but as per recent revelations, a diary was found by officials that hinted at trouble in the couple’s relationship. The police officer said, “A diary recovered from her room mentions marital discord between the two.”

She is further claimed to have written, “If there is no love and trust in a relationship, what is the point of life?”
Another investigator, as per reports, has said that while phrases like “no love and trust” were used in some of the diary entries, there was no outright blame put on anyone, nor were any names mentioned. Harpreet and Deepti were married back in 2010 and have a 14-year-old son.
Deepti’s brother, Rishabh, meanwhile, has been calling out the husband and his family, alleging that their treatment of his sister was not right. Speaking with news agency ANI, he said, “Her mother-in-law and husband used to beat her. Her husband, Harpreet, had affairs. When we got to know about it, we took our daughter home… After that, her mother-in-law took her back.”
He further stated, “My sister used to call me and say that she was tortured and that her husband had affairs. I don’t know whether my sister was killed or died by suicide. I spoke to her 2-3 days ago… I just want justice… My sister was married in 2010. His relations with her husband were not good. He used to physically assault her and abuse her.”
A report by The Indian Express quotes Rishabh saying, “We brought her home last year after she complained about physical abuse and her husband’s affairs. They [her in-laws] took her back, saying they would keep her like their daughter. But recently, she again complained about the [husband’s] affairs. I spoke to her two-three days ago. She was talking about her son’s admission.”
The Chaurasia family, meanwhile, has dismissed these allegations, with their family advocate, Rajender Singh, saying, “Whatever happened is very unfortunate, and they are cooperating with the police.”
Singh added, “Both families decided that the cremation will be done together today because we want to give full respect to her. This is a huge loss for both families. Whatever is being reported in the media is totally false. There is no allegation in the suicide note. She has not particularly named anyone to be responsible for.”
