New Delhi (India), April 11: Dr. Sunil Kalda is an Indian plastic surgeon practicing since 1990, who specializes in burn, cosmetic, aesthetic, and reconstructive surgeries. He runs a private surgery practice, Kalda Hospital, in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, and is in charge of the Kalda Burn & Plastic Surgery Center in Raipur.
He is a pioneer in laser surgery, microvascular surgery, craniofacial surgery, ear reconstruction, re-implant surgery, and cancer reconstructive surgery. He has performed over 175,000 operations at his facility, treating national and international patients.
He has received numerous accolades, including the “Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh Samman,” “Dr. B C Roy Award,” “Vihan Samman,” “Emerging Chhattisgarh,” and “Gaurav Award Mumbai.
Dr. Kalda has performed over 70,000 free surgeries, including 27,000 operations addressing cleft lip and palate anomalies, earning him the esteemed “Golden Book of World Records” accolade.
Dr. Kalda also leads various government initiatives and projects, including “Operation Muskan,” a campaign endorsed by the government of Chhattisgarh in 2010–11 aimed at eradicating cleft conditions within the state. He is the director of the project “Smile Train.”
Dr. Kalda has conducted over 200 free camps in the remote and hard-to-reach Naxal-affected areas of Chhattisgarh.
In 2010, Tahalka magazine conducted a national survey to recognize Dr. Kalda’s contributions and the transformative effect of the “Kalda Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery Institute Raipur ” on community well-being.
His pioneering efforts in burn care since 1990 have led to the establishment of a cutting-edge facility, the “Super Burn ICU,” has cured patients with severe burns that exceed 90%. Since 2015, Kalda Burn and Plastic Surgery Center has received authorization for a skin bank from the Government of India and the Government of Chhattisgarh, facilitating the rehabilitation of acid attack survivors and extensive burn victims.
He is known for spearheading several limb amputation prevention initiatives, positively impacting over 5,000 cases of diabetic foot complications. Dr. Kalda is the Chairman of the IPA (Indian Podiatry Association) Chhattisgarh Chapter.
