When I was in my first year of college, all my friends used to ask me was whether all the houses in Jaipur are pink.
Do you know why is it called the ‘Pink City’? In 1876, Queen Victoria’s son Albert was visiting India and since pink was considered the colour of hospitality, Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh had the whole city painted in pink to welcome the guests.
Jaipur is the largest city in Rajasthan and the first planned city of India. The construction of Jaipur started in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh and it took four years to complete the construction of some of the finest places.
Here are some pictures of Jaipur in the 19th century compared to ones that have been clicked recently in the 21st century:

It was rightfully written by Karl Wiggins in his book Wrong Planet, “Our senses were assaulted with colors, smells, and noise. We saw a million saris, and never once did I see the same pattern repeated twice.”
Jaipur is the one-stop destination for the one who craves jewellery, clothing, sweets, and Rajasthani food. The list is endless, but most importantly, it is famous for its never-dying culture!
Jaipur is a perfect blend of being a modern city where you’ll find all sorts of modernism and a historical city that has recorded one of the world’s most famous events.
The way Jaipur preserves its blend of everything is one of the reasons why it was recently added as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
All those travel freaks who are waiting for things to open after the pandemic should have Jaipur as a priority on their travel list.
The heart-warming hospitality of Rajasthanis is known to everyone, and it will live up to the age-old saying of ‘Padharo Maare Des’.
