What’s your musical background?

I started out as a musician when I was around 15. I became a blogger for a long time, then I started singing again. I was a drummer and a pianist, also in my church.

You came from Ogun State to engage with Lagos’s music industry, possibly the biggest in West Africa. How would you describe the Ogun State music scene like?

It’s good. There are a lot of talented artists. Many people who inspired me when I was in Ogun State still inspire me today. The likes of other brilliant musicians in Lagos. I listen to a lot of Ajebo Hustlers. Ogun State is doing well, there’s lots of talent there that played a role in my growing up.

How would you describe your sound?

Mostly, my sound is afro-fusion, sounds like blues. But I still don’t like being boxed in some way, I’m not that kind of artist. There are so many influences on my music.

How was the There Is God Like No Other idealized? When did you begin work on it?

It’s been an endless process, and it was fun. I started working on it in June this year. At some point, I had to go off social media, stay away from a lot of things, and keep my head straight to get the project right.

Often, when people discuss your music, they gloss over the uniqueness of your songwriting. How was that developed?

I really don’t know. But growing up, and up to this day. I listen to a lot of blues. Also, I wouldn’t say I’m the book type.
