November 23rd, 2020 – Camarillo, CA; Casa Pacifica Centers for Children and Families, headquartered in Camarillo, CA, recently announced they would rename their 24-acre rural campus after their longtime CEO, Steven E. Elson. Elson recently retired back in July of this year, however, during his tenure, he oversaw huge growth from the organization’s early years in 1994. The non-profit has been recognized throughout the state and across the nation for their high-quality programs designed to help at-risk and troubled adolescents and teens.

Since their inception, Casa Pacifica has helped more than 42,000 children and their families, often at the most difficult times of their lives. Elson’s leadership guided Casa Pacifica through their Continuum of Care Reform, a child welfare reform established in 2017. Casa Pacifica went on to be the third agency in the state to receive a short-term residential therapeutic program license.

In case you are not familiar with their mission, Casa Pacifica offers adolescent and family services designed to treat victims of abuse and neglect, substance abuse, homelessness, and other behavioral and mental health issues.  Their programs are designed to restore hope and help children find joy in daily living and improve families’ opportunities to build a better life for themselves and find a place in the community where they can be successful.

The organization has offices in Santa Maria and Santa Barbara and have served families from as far south as San Diego and as far north as San Luis Obispo. Their Camarillo headquarters have expanded significantly over the years and now houses numerous residential units, ten classrooms, a fully equipped music room, gymnasium, play fields, counseling rooms, training and conference space, a medical clinic, as well as administrative offices for the staff.

Working with youth aged 9-17, the organizations many programs are designed to address a range of mental health issues including depressive and bi-polar disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma and PTSD, illicit substance use, self-harm behaviors, and co-occurring disorders. They follow a relationship-based approach to supporting and serving the young people in their care. They have a saying, that they “meet people where they are,” and this philosophy guides them in building on strengths and meeting their needs.

Honoring Steven Elson after such tremendous growth and success fits with an equally storied career. In addition to serving as Casa Pacifica’s CEO for the last 26 years, Elson has also given significant time to many state and national organizations including the California Alliance of Child and Family Services, the American Association of Children’s Residential Centers and California Mental Health Advocates for Children and Youth.
