If it’s Chinese it has got to be…no, not China, rather Kolkata.

Believe it or not, there are many hidden gems of Chinese food on the City of Joy. The best part about these culinary delights is their unbelievably pocket friendly rates. That is probably why these places are an all time hit with the forever-hungry-but-broke student population of the city.

Times brings to you a list of the top six places in Kolkata which serve authentic Chinese cuisine at almost laughable prices.

The rankings are in the order of preference. For your convenience, we have included the pricing list of all the places.

Have your pick!

  1. Tung Nam

This is a hidden gem in the truest sense of the term. Tucked away in a not-so-easily-accessible lane of Central Kolkata, this place is waiting to welcome you with its traditional, authentic Chinese. Their pork dishes are to die for. The best part is they serve you the food with beautiful chopsticks which are an art in themselves. Also, do keep in mind that they are closed on Tuesdays.

Address: 24, ChattwalaGully, near Tirreti Bazar, Bara Bazar, Kolkata.

Pocket pinch: 400 for two.

  1. Denzong Kitchen

Probably one of the oldest Chinese and Tibetan cuisine establishments in the city. Apart from their branches at New Alipore and Golf Green, their most well known outlet is the one at Bikramgarh. It is said, “you don’t know momos unless you’ve had them from Denzong’s”. Go ahead, give it a try.

Address: Bikramgarh, Golf Green, Kolkata

Pocket pinch: 300-350 for two.

  1. The Blue Poppy

This place has recently expanded into other outlets but the Camac Street outlet will be forever etched in the hearts of Kolkatans for introducing the true flavor of Tibetan and Chinese cuisine. The old world décor, polite staff and an absolutely delectable array of food makes this place a must visit. Their momos and pork dishes are a must try. Remember that it remains closed on the last Sunday of every month.

Address: 1st floor, Sikkim House, 4/1 Middleton Row, Russell Street, Kolkata

Pocket pinch: 400-450 for two.

  1. Kafulok

This is located in Kolkata’s very own China Town. Tucked away in Tyangra, Kafulok provides authentic Chinese cuisine in very reasonable prices. However, unlike most restaurants in Tyangra, Kafulok does not serve alcohol. But they never compromise with the quality of their food. A must visit if you’re broke and looking for tasty Chinese.

Address: 47, South Tangra Road, Kolkata

Pocket pinch: 600 for two.

  1. Golden Joy Restaurant

Located just off South Tyangra Road, this place is a foodie’s paradise. It serves a delectable array of Chinese cuisine at very reasonable rates. Every dish is a gastronomic explosion but their Sichuan Chowmein will leave you satisfied to the core. Apart from the food, their ambiance is also remarkable, the kind which gives you a feeling of home. Added perk: they also serve alcohol.

Address: 50/1, Matherswar Tala Road, Govinda Khatick Road, East Topsia, Topsia, Kolkata

Pocket pinch: 700 for two.

  1. Kim Ling

Another China Town entry, this place forced us to add an extra number to the list just because of their out of the world crispy starters. Visit and have only the starters and your life will be complete. Also, Kim Long serves alcohol at lower than usual prices. So, no point delaying a visit.

Address:  Iswar Mandal Lane, Tangra, Kolkata

Pocket pinch: 750-800 for two.

So, what are you waiting for? If you stay in Kolkata, your life of food adventures is incomplete without having tried this list. If you are planning to visit Kolkata, make sure you hit these places. No worries, You can thank us later. We’d like to add that there are other good Chinese places in Kolkata but being on the pricier side, they did not make it to the list.
