Every second day a new artist rises, ready to show the world what they are made of. But, not everyone has the good fortune of getting discovered by some hot-shot record company and be able to go on to become the next big thing.

Although, thanks to the new age of social media networks, young and upcoming artists, have found a method that is easy and within budget and most of all allows them to showcase their talents for the world to see. But, it is still very difficult for such artists to branch out in the international sphere, as not many people, outside of their native country, know them.

I am always on the search for new and upcoming artists. Not to say that I do not love me some Top 40, but at the end of the day good music and quality lyrics surpasses an artists’ world ranking.

So, below are the 6 musical artists to look out for in 2015. They are amazing musicians who are extremely talented, but have yet to make their mark. So, keep a look out for them in the next year, as who knows, they might finally hit the jackpot.

  1. IVY and GOLD-

I know I mentioned them in my last article (Top 10 Music Videos)…but since they have fast become one of my favourite bands, and are still pretty new in the industry, I want to include them in this list too. They deserve as much publicity they can get, because they are really good.

Maybe not everyone will agree with me on this point and perhaps on all my selections, but eh, what the heck. I like this band, and want you all, to at least give them a try. Then, if you guys don’t like it, I don’t mind.

If you want more info on them check out my previous article. Otherwise, I will let their music speak for itself. And if you are a fan of Florence and the Machine you should definitely give them a listen to.

  1. TAYLOR DAVIS-

Taylor Davis is an American violinist, arranger, and composer best known, for her covers of music, from video games featured on her YouTube channel ViolinTay. She has also performed several arrangements from musicals, films, television series and has recently also begun to release her original music.

I came across Taylor Davis when I was searching for the theme of Downton Abbey and wow…I was just blown away by how good she was.

Now, some might think that Violin as an instrument is pretentious and that she probably only does classical pieces. But I can assure you, that that is not the case with her.

In my last article I spoke about Lindsey Sterling, and now Taylor Davis, both of them have certainly made me appreciate violin as an instrument and its music. The music that she creates out of one small instrument is nothing short of commendable. This is one artist you have to listen to. You guys will not be disappointed.

  1. PENTATONIX-

Pentatonix (often abbreviated as PTX) is an American a cappella group of five vocalists, Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Kirstie Maldonado, Avi Kaplan and Kevin Olusola who originate from Arlington, Texas. Their range centers mostly, but is not limited to, the pop music style.

They were first recognized for their amazing work on covers of pre-existing songs and recently they have started to dabble in some original music, in the form of medleys. Their music is defined by their own arrangement style, a strong presence of low bass vocals, and a diverse range of vocal percussion.

They are a very close-knit group of people who have known each other for many years, some since their school days and their songs show their harmony. Their cover of the song Daft Punk was recently nominated for the Grammy Awards in the category “Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella”.

You might want to check out their collaboration with Lindsey Sterling( I swear that girl just springs up in any music that I like, like a little pixie) where they covered the popular song Radioactive by Imagine Dragons. And believe me; it’s even better than the original.

  1. KAT DAHLIA-

Katriana Huguet aka Kat Dahlia was born July 29, 1990 and is a Cuban American recording artist from Miami, Florida. She is basically known for her “razor sharp” lyrics and her unique, aggressive flow. Dahlia has used many great legends like Frank Sinatra, Led Zeppelin, Miles Davis and Celia Cruz as inspiration behind her music.

In interviews she has cited that legendary Reggae artist Bob Marley, especially, has had a great influence on her music and that she has been affected by his music since very early age.

While researching for this article I came across her and well, I would definitely recommend it. Although I’m, personally, not a fan of hip-hop and R&B…I still enjoyed her music. Give it a try.

  1. DAUGHTER-

Daughter is a European indie folk band from England. Fronted by North London native Elena Tonra, they were formed in 2010 after the addition of Swiss-born guitarist Igor Haefeli and drummer Remi Aguilella from France. They are currently signed to Glassnote( for North America) and 4AD (for UK/Europe).

Their genre of music is very indie, alternative rock. I was very impressed by their song ‘Still’.

Their music has been used in many episodes of TV series from both UK and US origin for their soundtracks and recently their song ‘Shallows’ was used in the series finale of the US TV series ‘The Originals’ ( so…any Vampire Diaries fans, check them out)

  1. BIRDY-

Birdy was actually recommended to me by my friend and fellow EconomyDecoded Writer and I must say I was very impressed by her. I do have to say, that I was very surprised to know that she collaborated with Mumford and Sons for the song ‘Learn Me Right’ for the Pixar move Brave. That song is really good and one of my favourites. I recently heard her new single ‘Wings’ and only one word…amazing.

For a girl that’s only 18, she has sure worked with some of the most prestigious labels and artists and has got a pretty solid resume. I almost feel jealous of her. But, all jealousy aside this girl has some serious talent. She might be young but she is not without talent. Do check out her music. Its worth listening to.

Ok, so I am not good with conclusions, but these were the 6 artists that I feel are really talented and with the right amount of public recognition, they can achieve great success. I believe that they have amazing potential and can go on to become legendary artists in their field.

Again, I iterate that many might not agree with my choices and before some of you get all ornery over why I did not include a certain artist, that might be because of two reasons (1) I do not know about them and (2) I do not like their style of music. I can’t be unbiased in music. It is very personal to me and I feel that no matter how balanced you might want to seem, you will almost always go for the things that you like.

So….comment below and tell me any new artists that you think are not getting their due in the spotlight.
