It is almost the end of the year and as expected the internet is flooded with lists and yearenders of all kinds.

From movies to shows to OTT shows, people to business people, who was the best in the year and the worst in literally every category imaginable, the most controversial, the most unproblematic, you name it and there is probably a list of it out already.

Among those things, the news of Elon Musk being named the ‘Scoundrel of the Year’ by a website in the United States of America is making the rounds.

Elon Musk Scoundrel?

On 27th December, American magazine and media website The New Republic, published an article with the title ‘Elon Musk Is The New Republic’s 2023 Scoundrel of the Year’.

Musk has had a pretty dynamic year especially after he took control of social media microblogging platform X, formerly Twitter in a massive purchase of $44 billion.

Musk and practically every decision he has thus taken in regards to X/Twitter afterward has been met with scathing criticism and the plummeting numbers and revenue that the site has brought in.

The website in a roast full piece claimed that Musk has an “unquenchable desire to be the center of attention” and that after Donald Trump, the impeached former president of the US, Musk “and his infantile need for validation” has taken his place.

The site called out how Twitter “teetering on the brink of collapse and worth less than half what the world’s second-richest man paid for it is funny”.

This is referring to how a few months ago reports came out revealing that Twitter/X had a value of just $20 billion from the original $44 billion barely 5 months after Musk took over.

They did seem to saying facts when they wrote “It is hard to think of a billionaire who has done more to damage their own reputation in such a short period of time.”

The report called Musk “evil” and a “deeply stupid and unserious person” which is far from the visionary tech billionaire tag he was attached to earlier.

The report pointed out how Musk had initially taken over Twitter/X to clean it up off restriction and fake news but brought back problematic people like “Alex Jones, Donald Trump, innumerable Nazis and bigots”.

It concluded by writing that Elon Musk now was “a puffy, pathetic man increasingly untethered from reality”.

Musk’s decisions with Twitter/X have all been disastrous. The blue tick being removed from people’s profiles and being made free for anyone to buy, the interface of the site itself becoming more and more horrendous, removal of circles, all of them just angered the people more and became fodder for Musk’s ridicule and how he was destroying the site.

That is not all, the many layoffs and people leaving of their own volition due to unhealthy work environments. People posted on X/Twitter itself about how bad the platform’s backend was and could be easily hacked.

Musk getting into constant fights with random people who were trolling him and then blocking them, advertisers backing out of the platform due to the fall of Twitter/X’s image due to all this, didn’t help anyone.
