Times When Indian Stand-Up Comedians Totally Nailed It

153

With regular news hour debates on prime time and with our generation spending a lot of time on YouTube watching stand-up comedy, we can say that Stand-up Comedians are a thing in India now! Their form of comedy is barely slapstick, unlike that on the Indian Television. They talk about things that matter, altogether from a new perspective while tickling our funny bone. Here are a few comedians who while making us laugh, hit real hard!

  1. NEETI PALTA ON BEAUTY PRODUCTS
By now, we indeed know how beauty products portray a certain flawed and stereotypical perception about women and how they manipulate their target audience into buying their products by cashing on their insecurities.

    “It is all about psychology.”
“For younger girls they say – Use this, ladka milega. For older women they say – Use this, ladka aapke paas hi rahega”
“Ladies, when you need a face cream to keep your relationship going, maybe you should let it go”

  2. ADITI MITTAL ON SANITARY NAPKINS
She makes us understand how horribly stupid the advertisements on sanitary napkins get and when “once a month there is science in our undies”.“Frieda Pinto was the brand ambassador of a sanitary napkin called ‘She’ which came with a money back guarantee”
“Now I don’t know how this works. You go to the shopkeeper and say – Bhaiya ye kaam nahi kar raha hai”

  3. APPURV GUPTA ON THE INDIAN EDUCATION SYSTEM
Appurv slams the Indian Education system that encourages rote memorization!

“India is the only place where rote memorization is encouraged”
“You are first taught ABC, then tables of 2,3 and 5”
“When it comes to the table of 9 and you are not able to memorise it, the teacher themselves tell you – left mein upar se niche 1-9 likh dena aur right mein niche se upar”

  4. DANIEL FERNANDES ON MARITAL RAPE BEING WORSE
Here he talks about the difference between rape and marital rape. Infact, marital rape being worse.
“What is the difference between marital rape and rape?”
“There isn’t. If there is no consent, it is rape”
“But in marital rape, you have to get up the next day and make your rapist a sandwich”

  1. DANIEL FERNANDES ON FEMINISM
Each second of this video, each word uttered from Danny’s mouth is pure gold and sarcasm at its best! He rips off the concept of male privilege and shames misogyny to its guts.
He talks about the Chris Gayle incident where people totally lost their minds and explains the difference between ‘flirting’ and ‘harassing’.“Chris Gayle was flirting with the reporter, not harassing her. There is a big difference between the two and somehow we tend to miss it out.”
    “Not our fault!”

“Because in India, our idea of flirting with a girl is to harass her!”

  2. ZAKIR KHAN – KOI BAAT NAHI
He recently came up with this video where he explains how the Internet age has created a conundrum around us which is difficult to escape. Every story has multiple sides to it and with barely any knowledge, we jump the bandwagon by reacting, rather overreacting immediately. There is no nuanced argument and simply hyperbolic ignorant statements being passed with no veracity. We lose our cool at the drop of a hat and mostly for no reason at all.
This is where Zakir Khan steps in to say right in the beginning of the video – “Hi, Koi Baat Nahi!”
