The second season of Mirzapur, the dynamic Amazon Prime Original series, was a much awaited one.

The show starring Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyendu Sharma, Vikrant Massey, Shweta Tripathi and many other fine actors, became an instant sensation when it first released in 2018.

The acting, the gritty plot and all impressed the audience who lauded it as one of the best shows of the year.

So naturally, the second season of Mirzapur was something many were anticipating, and it did finally release last night on Thursday, 22nd October.

While the show is available only on Amazon Prime Video, and only those with an Amazon Prime subscription can watch it, not long after the show leaked out on Telegram and other piracy sites like Torrent and more.

Claiming to be of HD (high definition) quality, the first two episodes of season 2 were leaked mere hours after the release.

Even after the government and authorities took several measures to block these websites hosting pirated content, they always eventually turn up with new domain names.

Why Is The Show Being Pirated Though?

Actually, this is not the first time that Mirzapur has had to deal with piracy since even its first season was leaked online quickly after its official Amazon Prime Video release.

Many people turn to these sites if they are unable to or don’t want to get a whole Amazon Prime subscription just for a single show.

According to them, it is fine to watch a pirated version and save their money since it might just be that they are short on cash.

There is another reason why the show is being spread through Telegram instead of official channels, and that has to do with the controversy that happened in August.

When the release date of the show was announced by cast member Ali Fazal, on August 24th, he faced a lot of anger from certain groups online for his public support of the anti-CAA protests that occurred in Delhi last year.

Soon after the hashtag #BoycottMirzapur2 started trending on Twitter and many netizens brought up old tweets of Fazal where he was supporting the protests.

A user on Twitter then only had tweeted out that:

So now, many users on Twitter are urging viewers to watch the show on Telegram instead of on Amazon Prime Video.

Twitter On This

Twitter did not take long to pick up on this and get down to business as usual. Netizens came forward with a barrage of memes and jokes around this leak:

Piracy is never a good option since it undermines the hard work of a big team who put in hours and hours to give out good content.
