QuoraED: What Are The Most Surreal Places In the World You Might Want To Visit?

-

QuoraED is a section where we pick up a popular question doing the rounds on Quora and weave a story around it!

Quora is a great  place if you need information from a number of different sources. And in this article. We take you on a virtual trip through the world on some of the most surreal places in the world that one might want to visit and experience.

1. Quinta Da Regaleira And The Initiation Wells, Sintra

It is an underground miracle. These are a pair of wells that go well below the ground level and were actually used for secretive initiation riots. The beauty of these wells is just as magical as the powers associated with them.

2. Salar de Uyuni (Bolivia)

It is the world’s largest salt flat.

The salt is over 10 meters thick in the centre. In the dry season, the salt plains are a completely flat expanse of dry salt, but in the wet season, it is covered with a thin sheet of water that is still drivable.

3. Great Blue Hole

The Great Blue Hole in Belize is worldwide known as one of the greatest diving sites. The almost perfectly circular hole is part of the Lighthouse Reef and is 450 meters deep.

5. Vaadhoo (Raa Atoll)

The beach glows: This phenomenon has been called the “Sea of Stars” due to its glowing blue waves. It’s a natural chemical reaction with a fancy name, bioluminescence, which takes place when the water is disturbed by oxygen.

Phytoplankton, the marine microorganisms in the water have a blue luminescence that occurs as they produce toxins that are harmful to fish, humans and other creatures, so though they look all pretty and magical, they’re actually not so friendly. The phytoplankton’s blue glow is like a defence mechanism which wards off other marine organisms from eating them.

6. Cappadocia, Turkey

As if plucked from a whimsical fairytale and set down upon the stark Anatolian plains, Cappadocia is a geological oddity of honeycombed hills and towering boulders of otherworldly beauty.

Doesn’t it remind you of Tangled? Beautiful!

7. Wat Tha Meru, Hat Yai

This place has been described as “a creepier-than-usual hell temple”.

For a religion most people perceive to be very calming or peaceful, they can be extremely graphic when it comes to representations of what happens in Buddhist afterlife.

Words cannot describe how creepy the representations are. Take a look.
