Pooja Bhatt has been trolled recently for calling out Amitabh Bachchan for not commenting on the Kathua and Unnao rapes.

When during the song launch of his upcoming film, 102 Not Out, Bachchan was asked on his thoughts on these rape cases he said that, “Mujhe uss vishay par charcha karne mein ghinn aati hai. So uss vishay ko uchhalo mat (I feel disgusted even talking about it. So, don’t rake up this issue). It’s terrible to even talk about it.”

This irked Pooja Bhatt who then tweeted calling him out on not standing by his otherwise progressive image that is all for female rights and voicing out against the wrong.

What Happened?

When Amitabh Bachchan, who is also the ambassador of the government project, ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ refused to comment on the heinous rapes that had happened, Pooja Bhatt decided to ask why exactly he portrays a forward-thinking image on screen but won’t talk about the real issues affecting us.

On 20th April, Bhatt tweeted out saying,

To this, someone replied by saying,

“A known alcoholic trying to gain publicity by using the name of a legend.”

Ultimately, Pooja replied to him by tweeting that,

Bhatt has been sober since December 2016 when she quit drinking, after some wise words from her father.

In a phone conversation, her father Mahesh Bhatt told her “I love you kid.” She responded, “I love you too pops. As far as I’m concerned, there is nothing else worth loving in the world.”

He replied,

“If you love me then love yourself because I live in you.”

This apparently worked as a trigger for Pooja who decided on quitting alcohol, something that she had been consuming since she was 16, in order to be a better version of herself and live a healthier and longer life.

The Fascinating Bhatt Family

Besides just the courage and strong wording of her tweet, that show how she has had a tough battle but is proud of where she is now, the Bhatt family has some interesting life lessons to give to us.

Instead of writing letters and posting lengthy blog posts right before a film release, the Bhatt family have gone about their business, even dealing with controversy and issues without much fanfare.

Some of these lessons are:

1. Accepting Alcoholism:

One of the things that both Pooja Bhatt and her father Mahesh Bhatt have done is accept their ‘problem’ of alcoholism and beat it. Overcoming the stigma around the problem and also the issue of women drinking.

2. Divorce and Affairs:

Another lesson this family can probably give that sometimes people drift apart, and while cheating is not right, it happens and the mature thing is to accept the wrongs and move on. Rather than try to hide it or think about his societal image, Mahesh Bhatt never tried to brush it under the rug and accepted it on his face.

3. Dealing With Fame:

Another thing that struck me about this family is how they deal with fame and have admitted to the negative sides to it quite often. Instead of painting a pretty picture of the industry they allow us to see the true reality and how much work and focus it takes to keep yourself centered in a place where veering off the path is extremely easy.
