By now, the news of the missing submersible that disappeared in the North Atlantic taking five wealthy tourists with it who had gone on an expedition to see the wreckage of Titanic the drowned ship is all over the world. It is literally something that people haven’t stopped talking about or commenting on.
Apparently, even King Charles III was being kept informed of the situation especially since as per reports one of the people onboard was a longtime supporter of two of his charities.
Now, with news coming out that the submersible had according to reports, exploded several days ago and yet hundreds and thousands of millions of dollars were spent on rescue efforts has made people reflect on the hypocrisy of it all.
Hypocrisy On All Fronts
People are pointing out the hypocrisy on various fronts with regard to how the Titan missing sub was dealt with and how the Greek boat tragedy was. One had billionaires and multimillionaires trapped on a vessel for which they spent $250,000 to get a spot and see the wreckage of the Titanic ship on their own.
On the other hand, you have the tragic incident of a fishing boat with around 750 people, mostly Pakistani and Afghan migrants that capsized in the Mediterranean Sea. As of yet the number of casualties in the Greek boat tragedy are unknown but around 78 have been confirmed dead while 500 people are currently missing.
The boat also had around 100 children below deck but the Titan sub overshadowing this equally horrifying loss of life has led people to raise some important questions.

Judith Sunderland, associate director for Human Rights Watch’s Europe and Central Asia division, speaking in an interview commented on the vast difference in how the attention that the media and even authorities gave to the two was “It’s a horrifying and disgusting contrast.”
She further said “The willingness to allow certain people to die while every effort is made to save others … it’s a, you know, really dark reflection on humanity.”
Josie Naughton, co-founder/CEO of Choose Love, a U.K.-based nongovernmental organization that supports refugees worldwide, said how the number of articles published for both incidents were very much tilted in favor of the missing sub adding “yet, it’s 100 times as many people who are feared to have lost their lives and these people, they were forced to flee their homes, they were looking for safety.”
American actor and producer John Cusack also tweeted out that “All I can think is refugees capsize no one cares – some billionaires on joy rides go missing – it seems like multiple navy’s are instantly searching.”
Another Twitter user wrote that “The sad hypocrisy of our world. A submarine expedition garners worldwide attention for a few missing billionaires who could not abstain themselves from “exploring” the remains of the titanic while a drowned boat filled with brown and black migrants receives barely any attention.”
One Twitter user commented that “More than 500 migrants and asylum seekers are presumed dead after their boat sank. While a multimillion-dollar rescue effort is underway for billionaires aboard a Titanic submarine, the response to the missing migrants primarily revolves around tightening borders. #OceanGate.”
Another user tweeted out how “A billionaire who is missing at sea viewing the Titanic is front page news. 300 migrants die in a boat off the coast of Greece and the British media talks about them like they aren’t human.”
