La Liga In Its Final Stretch As Barcelona Falter Against Malaga To Gift Real Madrid A Clear Lead

Real Madrid drew against Atletico Madrid this week but Barcelona lost to Malaga and blew their chance. Real Madrid are now favorites to win the league.

It was a week to remember for Real Madrid and one to forget for Barcelona as both teams had tough fixtures in La Liga and Real Madrid came out on top.

Even though the Los Blancos drew 1-1 against Atletico Madrid, the race to the title is still in their favor as they still sit at number 1 position in the La Liga standings with a game in hand over Barcelona.

Their arch rivals Barcelona bottled their chances massively by failing to capitalize their chance to go to top of La Liga (albeit temporarily) by losing 2-0 to a fiery Malaga side.

Real Madrid La Liga

The first match we’re gonna review is the Madrid derby.

It was a snazzy affair at the Santiago Bernabeu as the two Madrid faced off in the return fixture of the season at Real’s home turf.

The match had its moments as Cristiano Ronaldo almost scored his 20th La Liga goal this season by beating Jan Oblak but the ball was cleared off the goal line by the Atletico Madrid defense.

Surprisingly, it was Pepe who gave Real Madrid the lead as he guided a header into the back of the net to make it 1-0 and was later taken off the pitch as he suffered broken ribs (confirmed) due to a collision with fellow teammate Toni Kroos.

It was Antoine Griezmann who finally got a goal and made it 1-1 in the 85th minute and made sure Real could snatch only a point from the game.

The advantage to take was in Barcelona’s court and boy, did they screw it up.

A blowout 2-0 loss against a sprightly Malaga side was inclusive of some controversial refereeing and yielded a RED CARD for Neymar as he faces suspension for his next game and risks missing the El Clasico against Real Madrid as he sarcastically applauded the referee.
